What is your favorite dog breed? Why is that breed your favorite?

Cavachon because I have two and they’re very smart, playful, and loving/loyal. I also have 4 friends who have Cavachons (I’m a bit of a trendsetter, lol!) and those dogs are uniformly friendly and great companions for anyone.
Exciting! Hope you find the perfect breed and you have a very happy family dog who, also makes your family experience more joy!

They're incredibly devoted, loyal, goofy, playful, loving, and intelligent. Also protective, not something you have to teach them. They're great family dogs, and are actually very docile and calm, and since they are one of the most intelligent breeds, they are super easy to train.
On the down side, they shed like crazy (surprisingly) and fart a lot. Mine is currently lying under my chair and farting every 10 seconds, thanks to a hunk of cheese I gave her this morning.

I didn’t know they were so smart! Thanks for the info!

Rottweilers. Lovely dogs. They think they are smaller than they really are, as they try to put their big bodies in your lap at 115 pounds. Friendly and loyal, and family is their pack. Very protective and smart as a whip. Goofy, playful and loves running between your legs.

Yes. I just wrote about my Rotties. Stinky farts, calm, playful and devoted, intelligent and more.

I grew up with these. They barked a lot.

We love Labs. We are on our third one. So friendly and happy. They are a lot as puppies and young adults but are awesome when they calm down a bit.

I have a mutt that I adopted. But he's a 50/50 mix of lab and cocker spaniel. And I love him so much. Looks, size, personality. So much I wish I could get another. They are being purposefully bred in the UK, but not here. And called Cockerdors. I keep combing rescues for another one, but haven't found one yet.

I’ve always had Jack Russell Terrier mixes. They are so smart and playful. My current dog loves to steal socks or shoes when you aren’t looking and have you chase her. She has so much personality. They are definitely high energy and the puppy years were hard, but worth it.

Cocker spaniels. Perfect size, don’t shed, easy personality.

Cairn terriers. Big dogs in small bodies. So smart, fun, and affectionate.

But these other dogs are all good runners up. Also add springer spaniels to the mix. I think generally speaking, the sporting dogs are pretty solid choices because they were designed to hang out with a human to help the human and follow subtle signs from the human, but not to work all day long (so don't get as antsy as the herding or terrier breeds). Also, the soft mouth for retrieving breeds is a major plus.

I find your answer presumptuous, just as I find Golden Retrievers predictable in both appearance and personality. They are sweet and biddable but also boring. Give me a dog breed that is more independent and has more personality.

+1. Not to poo poo a great family breed, but all the Goldens I have ever met (and I have known a lot), are all the same. Exact same dog.

Isn't that the point of having a breed, though? The predictability? (I love Goldens but have only ever had mutts)

Goldens!

My pair are the sweetest, most loyal, cuddliest dogs. Yes, the shedding is a lot, but they are worth it. To the "they are all the same" poster, while they all have similar qualities (as they should), my two definitely have their own personalities.

French bulldogs. I got mine before they became quite so popular. I know people have ethical issues with them but IME they get along super well with people and other dogs and make excellent companions. And the breathing issue was resolved for mine with a minor surgery.
My vet told me they're his favorite breed as well.

LOL, I know what you mean! That said, I have friends with working/field bred GRs. They are nothing at all like the Gund version of GRs that are ubiquitous, and can be not the easiest of dogs to live with.
