Ha ha nope. |
What’s the highlight of the month in Moco...brunch at Cava, perhaps? |
Ah, yes. Because nothing screams cool and hip like Rockville. |
The great HoCo with the higher Asian percentage can barely manage to have 1 school in the top 10, while MoCo has 4. They have 2 schools in the top 20, while MoCo has 8 They have 3 schools the top 30, while MoCo has 11 And this is where HoCo should have had the advantage (rankings on paper) because on the field performances, academy competitions, MCPS crushes HoCo. |
HoCo only wishes they had something remotely comparable to Rockville. |
um, well, dear MCPS graduate....MCPS has 3 times the number of students as HoCo. The significance of your numbers is not quite what you think. |
Well, dear HCPS graduate... yes, MCPS has 3 times the number of students but it is not about the number of students, that's irrelevant. It's about the schools. See, HoCo could have only just 5 schools but if the school system is that great, have all the 5 schools make the top 10 or 20. Your comprehensive skill is not quite what you think. |
If county 1 has 10 schools and 2 are in the state top 10 and county 2 has 5 schools and 1 is in the state top 10, the counties are equally good, schoolwise. |
LOL! DH and I were just commenting about the ubiquitous Cava and the excitement it generates. |
DP... having looked at HoCo when we were moving to this area, yes, Rockville is a bit more hip than HoCo, but MoCo is made up of more than just Rockville. HoCo is much more suburban than MoCo. It's fine if that's what you want, but it's definitely much more staid than MoCo. Also, I really think it's an unfair comparison -- HoCo is much smaller and has much fewer FARMs rate than MoCo. Larger school districts have larger issues, obviously, but smaller school districts have its own challenges, too. We moved from a smaller school district, and though they may be able to make changes faster, they don't have the critical mass to offer more interesting and challenging programs, nor do they have the budget to do so. I think you can't go wrong with either school districts, but they are just different. If you don't like how MCPS is looking to rezone most of the school clusters, then you won't like HoCo because they are going through it now as well: https://www.baltimoresun.com/maryland/howard/ph-ho-cf-howard-school-board-redistricting-0131-story.html |
Perhaps, in a simpleminded way, but MoCo isn't all that comparable. It has both higher highs and lower lows. |
| If you have enough money to buy in certain high cost areas of moco, MCPS is better. Maybe too 10-15% of moco families. For remaining 85-90% of families, I’d go Howard. Top is better at MCPS, once you step down, Howard is better place to be. |
Living in Moco, I can walk to tons of cool restaurants with cuisines from around the world Much prefer that to eating at some chain in a shopping center parking lot Hoco has advantages but being cool, interesting or hip are not among them |
| And I lived in hoco for 4 years |
if you're kids are bright enough to get into a magnet it really doesn't matter where you live in moco |
