Does anyone have experience with moving from MoCo to Howard?

Lots of MCPS haters on this board like to pretend HoCo is perfect, but of course it's not.

Who here said it was perfect?

Is it better than MCPS? Yes and that isn't saying much

Only in DCUM fantasy land but in the real world, MCPS crushes HoCo

By sexual predator cover-ups?

Or

What?

You take the Asians and their test scores out of MOCO and it is literally PG County

You take the Asians out of HoCo, and you'd see the same.

Howard is better than MC and a shorter commute is a huge win. Howard has all the same suburb activities and places that you see in Montgomery County.

Its a big sore spot for Montgomery that it has lost its top place in the MD school district rankings. It intensely pisses off Montgomery County that it keeps losing the UMC folks that want to live further north to Howard County. MCPS would prefer that you move to one of the northeastern MoCo failing schools so you can bump up their scores.

Boring how? I'd take boring in a heartbeat. We've had an uptick in break-ins on our street. MCPS has a history of sexual assault incidents, especially in the past 5 years. No thanks, I'd take a 'boring' school system any day.

It doesn't have a screwed up curriculum that it wasted millions on and now has to replace quickly because the kids all have gaps. It never had the inane everyone gets a P grading system that MCPS had to dump. It doesn't have the weekly news study on another MCPS staff member using a kid. It doesn't have the same level of grade inflation or non-existent discipline policy.[b] Its a very good and NORMAL school system.

Another plus is that if your child wants to go to UMD it will be easier coming from Howard County than Montgomery County. The W schools alone could fill up the incoming class at UMD. Combine that with kids in the magnets and other solid schools like QO etc and there is a lot of competition for the number of spots that can go to Montgomery County. Howard is much smaller.

+1 million

This is exactly it. I have kids in MCPS and year after year, I'm disappointed in MCPS. Have watched all this sh&t unfold, and have watched the people responsible get away with zero accountability.

It's just a lame place to live. Not talking about a school system.

It's just a bunch of people crammed next to each other yet all somehow close to nothing interesting

Even with these problems in MCPS, HoCo cannot even catch up to , let alone beat MCPS. They cannot even place 2 schools in the top 10.

LOL.
Asians barely affect MoCo scores. They represent only 14% of the students body of 159,000.
Asians represent 21% of the students body in HoCo of just only 55, 000. They significantly affect HoCo scores , lot more so.

Higher Asian population means it’s better in HoCo. Don’t you know Asians follow good school systems? That’s probably more telling than any of the posts here.

?? Boring as in no shooting, no MS-13, no sex scandals at school?? Is that what you mean?

Moco has a gun violence problem? Not really

Besides Howard's monotony will kill your soul anyway

Well, we just had a drive by shooting a mile from my house. Former CASA employee.

Asians in MD score about 30 points higher than whites on the SAT. I think it's similar in MoCo. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be "literally PG county" without Asians.
