Luke Perry’s Death-why is it hitting so hard?

Not drugs, not stupidity, not a senseless car accident or something random. Barring any news coming out, this is the first whammy for Generation X.

Sure - it was hard when River Phoenix died - but he was doing drugs in the Whiskey a GoGo. Whitney Houston, drugs. Heck, Michael Jackson, drugs.

This is why I am upset too, although I'm sure a celebrity has died of cancer or something. I always assume that someone dying young is attributed to drug use but LP didn't do drugs it's just sad.

The only one that ever hit me was Natasha Richardson because she was out playing with her kids doing something people do ever day. She was talking and fine and the she wasn’t.

Do you lack social skills?

Seriously, some of you need to learn that no one cares that YOU "don't get the angst over celebrity deaths in general" or never watched the shows. It's really simple, if you don't like the topic and don't get it, don't comment. Move along. Coming to a thread where people are discussing something just to say you don't care or don't know anything about it contributes nothing. NO ONE CARES.

It's hit me hard too, OP. This is the only celebrity death that has ever hit me hard and made me cry.

For me, it's because 90210 was THE show of my formative years. It brings back so many memories and at the time it almost felt like these characters were a part of my life. It feels like a big loss to have one of them die. It may sound silly, but it's like someone I knew when I was young died. And yes, I know he's not actually Dylan McKay, but that's what it feels like.

I feel very sad about his death too. Too young in real life and forever young in my mind.

That's part of what's so upsetting about his death - the fact that he was apparently a very good guy in real life. What a sad loss.

Buzzfeed - stories of what a great guy he was. So sad.

To the PP's who cam here to say "you never watched the show" and "you don't care" - BUZZ OFF!

+2. I’ve been thinking about him all day today.

I was a young single woman just starting out in my career and it reminded me of my carefree youth which was only a couple of years prior.

From what I've read, he didn't abuse drugs and he wasn't a smoker (at least not a regular, heavy smoker.) It seems like most of the young stars who've died is because of reckless behavior (drugs, alcohol, fast driving, etc) or suicide. A stroke is so "normal."

Yes, this. People in this age bracket aren't supposed to just "up and die" for health reasons. Either it's something that's been a long time coming with substance abuse/mental health issues, or its sudden and tragic (car accident) or it's at the end of a long illness. It's scary to think someone that age could be basically fine on Wednesday and be gone on Monday with no intervening action.

His death wasn’t “old age related.” But it was a death of seemingly healthy person of natural causes in his 50s and it’s very unsettling.

But 52 isn’t “old age.” That’s what’s so shocking and tragic about it. He was in middle age. He had young adult (18 and 21) children. It hits home.

Not to start rumors and we dont know, and by all accounts he was a great guy but how to people know he didn't do drugs / smoke / have other health issues? I'm as aware of anything that these things happen - my seemingly healthy father died of a brain aneurysm in his early 60s - but we don't KNOW there was no underlying cause.

I agree with those who say it's age related. People we watched and listened to growing up are dying.... too young IMO. This wasn't an overdose, there haven't been news stories of rehab or mental health problems.

Any one of us could die of the same thing today.

I just read all those Buzzfead stories and the Colin Hanks story (hilarious!). These make me feel even more sad. I had no idea he was such a decent and kind man. Rest in peace.

Makes sense. But look at the videos of him from his last red carpet appearance. He looked like he could have been 60+. Twinning with Bryan Cranston who is 62.

I am 54 and he looks like a normal fifty year old man to me. Maybe he didn't do the celeb placenta facial or something. But he looked just as he always has, just a little older. Maybe folks should start saying"Wow, have they aged naturally" instead of "they're old looking".

I didn't even watch the show and I'm sad.

I think it's because he's the first one of our generation of celebrities that was 1) very popular and 2) died of something wasn't suicide or drug related.

Senator Sherrod Brown wrote that his father who was a doctor delivered Luke Perry. (Perry was from Mansfield, OH like Sherrod). Sherrod wrote a nice piece that Luke was a lovely guy.

To the twits who are writing mean things here...get a life. Perry is dead...have a little respect.
