This. Plus, it hits me to see actors I crushed on aging in general. Look at Harrison Ford, Don Johnson, Clooney, Pitt, etc. They look like grandpas. It sucks getting old. And dying young is even worse. |
| Because it's an untimely death, and it's unusual for those in our age bracket (his age bracket) to lose people. Our parents are used to hearing about the deaths of the beloved icons of their youths; we are not. It's a rude awakening. Death awaits us all, and we aren't getting any younger. |
| I watched this show in my 20s, when I was in my first job and then later going back to grad school. It was a weekly get together with a group of great friends - we'd rotate apartments and make dinner and drink cocktails. Due to a messy divorce, I've lost touch with all those people and Luke Perry's death sort of brought it all back for me: how great it was to be young and have the whole world ahead of you, how your life can go in unexpected directions or end suddenly. It seems like he was a surprisingly nice and decent human being, which makes his untimely death seem even more unfortunate. |

Luke Perry's Dylan has been compared to James Dean who also died tragically young.

I'm a couple of years older than Luke Perry but I enjoyed watching 90210 - I was in my mid 20's when it debuted and it was a guilty guilty pleasure. I was a young single woman just starting out in my career and it reminded me of my carefree youth which was only a couple of years prior.
From what I've read, he didn't abuse drugs and he wasn't a smoker (at least not a regular, heavy smoker.) It seems like most of the young stars who've died is because of reckless behavior (drugs, alcohol, fast driving, etc) or suicide. A stroke is so "normal." |
But wasn't he speeding in his Porsche when he crashed? |
|
Because fifty-two is really too young to die.
And since he played a younger version of himself for years - We likely think of him as much younger than he actually was. So sad. ;( |
| Is that show Riverdale Luke was on any good? |
| Don't worry folks - he's hanging around in the great Peach Pit in the sky, watching over us all. |
Harrison Ford is 76 years old, and in my opinion, really doesn't look it. I grew up idolizing Indiana Jones and it legitimately scares me that he's going to be the next icon to die. I wasn't even a big 90210 fan but when the news hit yesterday afternoon, I was in a meeting with three other women, all of us in our late 30s/early 40s, and everyone took it pretty hard. I hate the phrase, but that show really "defined a generation," and they were the cool slightly older kids. His death reminds us that, well, we're not kids anymore. |
| Because it reminds you that we will all die. |

Riverdale is good. It's trashy, but addictive. I watch with my 14-year-old, and I wouldn't have wanted her to start watching any younger than this.
His character is kind and sweet. It was great to see him … kind of like running into an old college friend … and now that he has died, and people are telling all these stories about how nice and apparently normal he was, it just makes him even more likeable. |
Yes and he was half Perry’s age when he died. I am super sad about this but to compare these is ridiculous. For these to be comparable, Perry would have had to have died during season 3 of 90210. |
Exactly what my feelings are. I am his age exactly and just watched the first two seasons of Riverdale with my teenage DD. Having watched him on 90210 then evolve into this nice character (yes, on silly but quite entertaining show) and act as a mentor to the young actors who are just like he was thirty years ago. It's bizarre, but I am going to miss Fred Andrews most of all. |
| I just found out just now. I am in mourning for Dylan. I had the hugest crush on him when I was in my 20s. He was only a year older than me, so also on that level it's scary. |
