Very few Chevy Chase Village houses are zoned for Somerset. The vast majority go to Chevy Chase Elementary.

+1. Most of the people who go to Somerset ES live in the town of Somerset, Chevy Chase West and the border with Friendship Heights.

So close to DC yet they don’t owe one penny to SE or NE. One of the more elite country clubs in the US. A police force that focus on residents and what they want.

Old money is not only about being rich. It's about having class. The multiple families I know who live in CH CH Village definitely do not fit in that category and seem to be full of themselves and quite superficial -- unlike the families who live in the Spring Valley area. I am no expert. Just an observation from someone who has dealt with them for 2 decades.

Murch, Deal and Wilson, though many kids do private.

Sorry schools? Do you honestly think MoCo is better? We have small class size down here for Murch - and Deal is far from perfect but awesome for what you get and run so well. High School - many options besides Wilson.

Big yards in FH too - we have over a 1/2 acre and a ten minute walk to the Metro.

LA is infamous for paying 2.5M for a cramped 1950s ranch. And lots are tiny too.

LA means many different suburbs .

So does DC.

Anything close in in LA with good schools is going to cost a fortune and be crappy. Just like DC.

2.5M isn’t getting you a mansion by any stretch of the imagination. You’d have to go way out to places like Calabasas.

But if you up your budget you can find real mansions that are fantastic old-money style estatesin Bethesda or McLean. In LA, you can’t find anything like that within 20 miles of downtown worth living in.

One thing that is great about Chevy Chase is that the houses hold their value. Even when the housing bubble burst the houses in Chevy Chase held their value (albeit dropping from absurdly priced to merely ridiculously priced). Location is another great thing. All of Chevy Chase Md is a short commute into DC while being close to the Beltway. I love just over a mile from the DC boarded and my commute (via car, during rush hour) to near Capital Hill is typically 45 - 60 minutes and when I worked near the White House it was about 15 minutes less. When I am not in rush hour it can be as shot as 30 minutes). Bethesda is a large area, so the commute will vary The public schools for Chevy Chase are all good. Again, Bethesda is a larger area and while I think all of the schools that serve the area are probably good I don’t know. Some people are attracted to the opportunity to live near famous and “powerful” people. There are a good deal of those in Chevy Chase. Crime is close to zero. Chevy Chase Village has its own police force and most of the other Chevy Chase towns/villages pay the Chevy Chase Village police to also patrol their towns/villages (as a supplement to the patrols by Montgomery County police). In the end, there are parts of Bethesda that offer everything that Chevy Chase does and parts that’s do not.

I think we have a winner.

The last few days reminded me why I love Ch Ch Village. Our kids were invited to decorating party after school last day before break (and we do go to Somerset in our part of CCV and there’s an explosion of kids these last two years. One of ours does go to private because right fit but we plan all will go to BCC.) We’ve been to holiday dinners in the neighborhood Sat & Sun and joined neighbors walking midday today. It truly feels close and like a village here: people so friendly! This is typical: We have family in from out of town and one of our neighbors basically insisted that 3 of them (2 bedrooms worth) stay at their house as they’ll be out of town until Jan 4. We could have been crammed in here but instead my brother/SIL and their two kids have comfortable bedrooms and house to themselves-and though they eat here with us our friends set them up for coffee and snacks. We’ve done same for others on our block (had another neighbor’s college DDs friends stay in our spare room for both women’s marches.

We love that CCV feels like a neighborhood but we are a shortish walk to metro, lots of stores, restaurants and two movie theaters. Being set between Connecticut and Wisconsin our driving commutes are easy enough too

He says Chevy Chase MD is one of the top places to live in the DMV, but I can't seem to figure out what's so great about CC Village, Martins Additions, Section 3, and Section 5. Seems like a bunch of older houses, small lots (<0.25 acres), and street parked cars due to lack of garages (and sometimes driveways). Reminds me of small old towns in New England.

I absolutely don't mean this as a troll post, but why is CC more desirable than nearby Bethesda where the lots are larger and homes look newer?

That’s the draw.

The housing stock here blows.

County ‘planning board’ has ruined Bethesda with excessive high density building projects everywhere and no infrastructure to support it (roads, parks/green space, recreation/ball fields, etc. just shopping it added) added, that’s certainly true.

Nice try to include Arlington in the discussion, but no. Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Great Falls, McLean, and Potomac are the area’s prestige suburbs. Arlington is second-tier.
