Things to avoid at Aldi

I’ve been meaning to get to our aldis; however, after this thread, I’m going to continue to skip it. Sounds like a waste of time.

Once you ate these, you will never think that regular, sugar over the top, cherry pie is tasty. Also, their 40 calories bread, DD loves it. Also fresh pastries some Aldis have, and some fresh meats, their ribs are good, chickens are good, in fact their bread and butter pickles are better than any store brand, Wegmans even. Their regular past is good, my kids love some of their pasta sauces, all in all it is generally good. But, we are from Europe. Their wasabi almonds are beyond addictive.

I just found a jar of these cherries PP. What do you do with them? Thanks.

Not PP but I'm VERY picky about produce. I don't buy Aldi tomatoes or peaches but those are the only things I've found lacking.
Aldi has the freshest broccoli and best price on fresh raspberries anywhere. Also great chocolate. I didn't buy most meat or seafood there at first but now eat fresh salmon and rack of lamb and organic chicken. They also have cane sugar and their German items are fantastic, as are select cheeses like Spanish Manchego and butterkase.

Things to buy-

Any German cookie (so good!).
Produce, organic and regular- whatever looks fresh, and there is always enough to fill my cart with a variety. Broccoli, apples, mushrooms, peppers...
The jarred sauces-Indian ones mostly
Any of the imported cheeses, just tried the Butterkase and it was v. good.
And yes, the cherries. I'll use those for a cherry pie or Black Forest Cake.

Anything that is from its native specialty country--so yes, the German cookies. Also the German-made chocolate and the cherries, which are Hungarian.

I make a phyllo dough pie like desert with them or make them into a tart cherry cake. Or regular cherry pie.

My husband prefers Fresh Market for produce...until last week when I went to Aldi’s And got tomoates. I used them in a recipe and he raved on and on how the tomatoes were so fresh and made the dish. They were delicious.

I went to the new Aldi's in Rockville - nice store, but I didn't buy anything. I just can't buy no name brands- I tried, I know people love that store, but I can't do it!

I mix 1 can of their cherry pie filling (no artificial colors and not as cloying sweet as other brands with a jar of drained tart cherries and make a crisp. So delicious!

I cant either. with a brand comes a certain element of trust. does their produce and meat look great because it's been treated with preservatives? where are they sourcing their perishables from? reminds me of the pantry aisle in ti max. stuff looks interesting and good but where has it been?

The brands you trust here in the US would be suspicious to foreigners and vice versa. Aldi is a full fledged grocery store, not an aggregator of leftovers like TJ Max or Ross or Marshall’s. Please educate yourself better to make better financial decisions not based on advertising.

It's been same places as any other store! I don't understand where do you think all grocers get their perishables from? I bought Safeway fruits and veggies and so many times it is a miss, utter rotting mess. So,imo, Aldi is just the same, you have to be careful what you buy when it comes to fresh veggies and fruit. Don't get me started on Clementines...in any grocery store, always, always bad. Once in 3 months I'll get ones that are decent, but mostly garbage straight out of store.

The ground turkey was awful

Do people ever think ground turkey is good? When it first came out we tried it a few times and it just has this rancid smell and taste. We also live in a region that is a major turkey growing area.

The knock-off Girl Scout cookies are available there year round. Taste the same to me--and lots cheaper!
