Things to avoid at Aldi

Anonymous
I like Aldi overall. There are a couple of things that I avoid there. They add starch to their shredded cheese -- I noticed that the shredded cheese tasted kind of sweet, and it isn't carb-free like most cheese.
Also, they have cheap frozen fish, but it is processed in China.

Is there anything else that you avoid at Aldi? Thanks!

I don’t like any of the cheese. It tastes bland to me, for some reason. I also don’t like the lunch meat.

I usually get produce, parbaked bread, milk/cream, and dry groceries, and then go to Wegmans for meat and to fill in.

I went to the new one on Rockville and bought a fresh calzone for my daughter. She said the cheese tasted fake and not to buy again. Seems like all cheese should be avoided based on the above. I bought grapes for 89cents/pd. I would not say they were fabulous but worth what I paid.

Produce. I never realized that a bag of baby carrots could taste so bad.

Their Brie is pretty good.

Agreed. Their cheese tastes fine to me but I've had really bad luck with fruit in particular, I think it's stored too long and it goes straight frim unripe to rotting. Had to bake a cake yesterday to use up half a dozen apples that tasted alcoholic.

I love their produce. I am picky about it as well. This week we have pears, mangoes, strawberries, bananas, tomotoes, lettuce, cauliflower, avacados and blackberries. Everything has been great. I avoid their German cookies (not good) and clam chowder.

I like their cauliflower and broccoli better than Wegmans. Some tortilla chips are way too salty, lunch meat I don't buy there either. I like their specialty cheeses, not regular ones. Fruit I don't usually buy there, but if I am being honest fruit is always a mixed bag at any grocery store.

Their molasses is disgusting. Most canned soups, too.

bagels were terrible. i mean they were bagged bagels so I knew they wouldn't be NYC quality, but man they were terrible. Kind of soft and spongy.

The paper towels (Boulder brand) weren't good. I didn't like the orange juice. But otherwise I've been happy with my purchases (although I only once every couple months or so).
