Supposed to leave for Europe on Sunday and I’m 5 weeks pregnant.

Sorry you are feeling poorly, OP. But I'd say go.

If she had the flu would you say go too? If she was as sick as I was than there is no way I would be able to handle the 9 hours on a plane, the jet lag and then having people wanting to eat and do things. All I wanted to do was sleep and throw up.

Don't do it, op!

You're an idiot. The flu is contagious. Pregnancy is not. Ridiculous comparison.

I found out I was pregnant midway through a trip to Europe, and I was 5 weeks. I found out after I ate mussels and got violently ill (if you go, avoid shellfish), and I was very tired, but we still had a relatively nice, albeit more mellow, trip. I kept the nausea at bay by sticking to foods PPs have already mentioned. And in hindsight I’m glad we had the trip because it’s 5+ years later and we haven’t had a real vacation since. I’m dying for a trip like that now.

If they’re really your friends, and you’re really ill with morning sickness, they won’t think twice about you bailing.

I think you can still get thalidomide in Belgium.

What is wrong with you?

I just found out I’m pregnant 2 weeks ago and morning sickness and fatigue have already hit. I have no desire to travel around Europe right now. DH keeps telling me “it will be fine” but frankly, he’s not the one with constant nausea and feeling like crap.

I told DH we should either go when I’m in my second trimester and some of the nausea has subsided and I can enjoy the trip more, but he still wants to go. I don’t. Everyone keeps telling me to go, but I just don’t want to. The trip is going to take up all my accrued leave and I now want to save that leave for the pregnancy, considering I’ve only been at my job 10 months and am not eligible for FMLA yet.

I’m moreso pissed that DH is being unsupportive about me not wanting to go. I understand his reasoning for feeling upset, but I feel like crap ALL the time.

Not sure I understand.

Pregnant women often work until the seventh or eight month.

So, you can work for months...but not enjoy a vacation in Italy?

My MS lasted well into my third trimester with my first, so I would definitely go. Like PPs said it will be much harder once the kid is here!

Don’t go. Tell the other couple today. They will go and have fun. Have dh plan a trip in our second tri with the credits.
I had a decent first tri but I was very very tired and wouldn’t have enjoyed myself at all and would have had a hard time not being whiny and not ruining it for others.

You are being so dramatic. Take some meds and get over yourself. This must be your first.

I had to be on business travel for 2 weeks when I was about 6 weeks pregnant and super nauseous. A coworker taught me to eat sweet tarts non stop to subside the nausea. It totally works, I have no idea why but I was in a boardroom style meeting for a few days chugging movie size boxes of sweet tarts with no nausea. People must of thought I was some sort of adolescent sugar junkie...lol. Try it tomorrow and see if it works for you, if so you can go on a sugar high all over Europe

I do not see the big deal, but I did not have morning sickness. I went to Europe at 10 weeks no problem.

You don't ruin a trip for 3 other people
You go. You throw-up in the hotel room. You rest at the hotel, if that's what you want to do

This. Suck it up sunshine.
Why did you get pregnant if this is such an issue?

I had to cancel a safari in Africa due to malaria meds and a very bumpy ride. But this is easy. Just go!
