We’d eaten, I’d boxed my food while they finished up their desserts. Boxes were there for them to pack their leftover entrees. We were definitely not sitting at an emptied table preparing to leave. They were still engaged in conversation and desserts. That’s the reason it didn’t occur to me they’d be getting up before I returned.

It takes twenty seconds to box up leftovers. "It didn't occur" to you that they might finish before you got back? You're the thoughtless one.

I would not make it about the people, but rather about my habits. I take my purse to the restroom and I keep it out of sight at work, too. I guess i don’t trust people!

I'm guessing you grew up in the burbs OP. I grew up in the city and never expect anyone to watch my stuff...you need to ask very clearly.
