You're making things up. There is no French language police telling us how to speak. Theres are laws regarding signage and advertising for businesses though. I like fin de semaine better. Weekend sounds wrong but many people use it. When they wish me a nice weekend, I wish them a nice fin de semaine.

Overall, the majority of our immigrants come from France. I'm talking about immigrants from 60 years ago as well as recent immigrants. |

Montreal and Quebec City are lovely places to visit.
What I really remember about Quebec is that the French speaking population are paranoid about protecting their French identity within the larger English speaking Canada. It's understandable, but it's also why after Bloc Quebeciois gained power and started pushing for independence, Montreal declined relative to Toronto. Montreal used to be the big city in Canada and Toronto a provincial secondary city. But now Toronto is the big city for Canada and Montreal has fallen to a second tier status. I don't think most people in Quebec minded. Montreal is probably more Francophobe now than it was 50 years ago. |
Excuse me @sshole but you have some ignorant friends. Many people laugh at the perceived ugly accent of the Spanish too. But no one laughs more than at idiots who don’t know what they’re talking about. Also dialects vary in both Mexico and Spain, but professional dumb dumbs like yourself wouldn’t know that. |
Idiots. Racist dumb trash idiots both of you. There are many different accents in Central America alone. Only racist idiots think that a spanish accent from Spain is “better” when again there are multiple accents in Spain- none that are perceived as pretty. Why am I arguing with McDonald’s eating fatties who took spanish 1 thirty years ago and can barely speak English, much less a second language. |
It’s not loopy. The problem is that idiots who’ve never left their cruise ship think they understand dialects in a language they can’t speak. They’re using racist ideas to justify their idiotic theories. So Europe good, Canada and Mexico bad. To be fair to them it is hard to learn a foreign language if you feel compelled to jam a cheeseburger in your mouth every time you open it. And it is hard to listen to differences in dialect over the noise your thunder thighs make when you walk. |
Do you mean from other French-speaking countries like Haiti? Most immigrants over the last 60 years are not from France. Children of immigrants to Quebec are required by law (Bill 101) to send their children to French School so yes, to the previous poster, there are language laws that extend beyond signage, etc... |
Spain is the origin of Spanish so they perhaps are allowed to see their Spanish as the most pure and measure other accents by the home country Spanish? My Spanish friends say in Spain the southern Spanish accent is the most mocked within the Spanish dialects. And that the Mexican is the worst of the new world accents. I don't think there is anything "racist" involved here. It's different, just as the American English is different from the British English despite that both are western countries and historically the British English (received pronunciation version) has been accepted as the "best" and clearest of the English accents. I personally find South African English the harshest, followed with Glaswegian English, and there's nothing racist involved here. |
Of course it did. Because you were in Canada, not France |
Your Spanish friends need to get out more. |
You must be the Kate Middleton poster from the Beauty and Entertainment forums. - obsession with royalty - obsession with fatties - obsession with older women - obsession with how to be “high-bred” versus “low class” |

| Children of immigrants going to French-speaking schools is a good thing. It allows these children to integrate into our society. |
No, I mean French people from France. http://www.stat.gouv.qc.ca/statistiques/population-demographie/migration/internationales-interprovinciales/603.htm |
Someone needs to get rid of the chip on her shoulder. |
