Sharp Objects HBO

I tried. I really tried. And I like dark and murky dramas.

- Did the stepfather do it? What is his living arrangement with Adora? He lives in the house but sleeps on a sofa bed somewhere?

- What is the animosity between Amma and the brother of the dead girl? They seem to really hate each other. Could Amma have killed her?

- What’s the story with the cheerleader girlfriend and her demand to be featured in Camille’s articles?

- As annoying as she is, the girl who plays Amma is a phenomenal actress. I almost don’t recognize her between her good girl act and her wild, party girl persona.

Those of us who have read the book could answer these questions, but some of them would be major spoilers. They’ll be answered soon!

I'm loving it, though I agree it's painful to have to wait a week for each episode.

It's visually stunning. I'm so happy to see Elizabeth Perkins. I'm rethinking my aversion to wallpaper. How can I get waves in my hair like Amy Adams. I'm really enjoying the full frontal male nudity!

But good lord the sound issue is terrible. Is this an HBO issue? Is this the start of age related hearing loss? OEs the sound editor suck?

I agree with everything except the sound issue. The sound is supposed to evoke memory.

Maybe the audio is more geared towards streaming on devices. I watch this show on an iPad and have never had trouble hearing anything.

DH and I are barely hanging on and we have watched every other HBO series, including both True Detectives. We wouldn’t still be watching if Amy wasn’t in it. It better be worth it.

the most important element in the mystery/suspense genre

I didn’t have trouble with sound but I did with visuals b/c viewing on a small screen. I agree with others a little too much on visuals that were supposed to be atmospheric. It wasn’t a slow build up IMO, more like a tire with a slow leak—eventually you’ll find the source but it’s taking forever. Not a particularly satisfying show. More like, okay i’ll watch the next installment but if it doesn’t materialize, I just don’t care.

I did not read the book, but I’m enjoying the show. Thoughts:

- Jackie knows a lot. Can’t wait to hear her story.
- Adora and the stepfather are involved. Some sick game.
- Next episode, we’ll see the morning after Amma’s and Camille’s drugged out night on the town. We’ll understand what Amma meant about Momma taking care of her the next day.
- We’ll learn more about Camille’s sister death. Munchausen by proxy on Adora’s part?
- Is Camille a product of rape, which is why Adora can’t stand her? Could Amma be Camille’s daughter?
- I was confused when Jackie said Camille’s rehab roommate poisoned herself because I thought she cut herself to death. Could Camille have been involved?
- Could the dead sister have been poisoned, too?

The full frontal nudity of the young police detective is completely blurred on my TV. Just shadows. Do you actually see anything? I’m loving Elizabeth Perkins too - she’s perfect for this part.

I was also thinking Camille’s sister died from Munchausen by proxy (Adora) too. Seems very likely.

Intriguing when Jackie said, “You’re getting warmer,” in response to the detective’s curiosity about Camille’s issues.

So painful when Adora told Camille she had never loved her.

Makes me want to get high, have a drink, and then roller skate on a warm, humid night.
