It was a pretty slow opener. So many flashbacks —too many IMO. I hope it picks up.

I just asked my DH if it was just me; I couldn’t understand what they were saying.

Just watched Ep 2 off the DVR last night. I like Amy Adams a lot, and i wanted this to be a success for her, and it's a decent enough creepy southern gothic story but man. I don't know if I can make it through 6 more episodes of it.

The sound is SO HARD to understand. They are whispering every line.

And then everything else is so damn subtle. The whole thing of the self harm/scars is a big theme of the book but I think you could watch this and have no idea of what is going on. My husband hasn't read book and after Ep2 said, I have no idea of what is happening and i am paying attention.

So frustrating.

Her family is super creepy, especially the mother!

Totally agree.. Want to love this but sound is to muffled. Having hard time hearing what they are saying and even with volume up, it is still not clear.

I don't have any problem with the sound. Maybe you ladies need to invest in hearing aids at this juncture?

Have they shown the words in her skin?

I read the book and since then I’ve wondered what her skin would look like...

It's just flashes and the scars are so light it's not obvious at all. They showed her finally uncovered and you couldn't even really tell that she was scarred.

I also wondered how they'd film it and I think it's not done very well.

can I give up on this show now? just finished the third episode. was that a psych ward she was in> it was confusing cause she checked herself in but seemed to come and go to the front desk whenever she wanted. how long ago was that supposed to be?
I pretty much find every character annoying. Its more just creepy than suspenseful. and truly should have been edited to 4 episodes max. that sister amma may the one I hate the most.

It was a rehab center. I think it was supposed to be fairly recent.

OK, the sound issues are real. I had to rewind & listen super closely to hear the dialogue in Ep 4.

What the heck was under the bed that the teenaged girl was cleaning up? I couldn't even tell what that was and I'm watching on a 50" tv.

This series is so freaking slow, and I hate to say boring. But OMG. Something needs to happen.

Gillian Flynn wrote the screenplay for this, and I'm losing an ounce of respect for her with each minute of every episode.

I turn on closed captioning

Anyone else still following this show? I can't decide how I feel about it. The acting is great and I am looking forward to things getting really nuts in the next two episodes, but so far, still pretty slow moving. I think this would have been better released all at once like Netflix shows, where you could binge. Drawing it out over weeks makes it seem even more tortured and wandering.

I absolutely love the show. Read the book and think the show is million times better. I think they will the mother a killer, however does she have the strength to pull teeth?

I agree. I enjoyed the book, but some of the syntax in the book bothers me, especially that of Adora. The writing and the dialogue on the show are superb, and a perfect representation of those classes of southern people. (And yes, you do have to turn it up. Watch with headphones for a great experience!)

I’m enjoying the show immensely.

I find myself more and more confused with each episode.
- Did the stepfather do it? What is his living arrangement with Adora? He lives in the house but sleeps on a sofa bed somewhere?

- What is the animosity between Amma and the brother of the dead girl? They seem to really hate each other. Could Amma have killed her?

- What’s the story with the cheerleader girlfriend and her demand to be featured in Camille’s articles?

- As annoying as she is, the girl who plays Amma is a phenomenal actress. I almost don’t recognize her between her good girl act and her wild, party girl persona.
