MoCo Election Results...

It's ridiculous not to have a run off in this situation. Top 2 or 3 vote getters. The ballot this year was simply overwhelming.

Also, for the races where you vote for more than 1 and there were umpteen candidates, I think it should either be ranked voting, or also a run off for top 6/8.

+1. Also if these assholes are using taxpayer funds for their campaigning, primaries should be open to ALL since that is effectively the election in MoCo.

I kind of agree with this too. It’s kind of crazy how such a small percentage of the population ends up choosing the elected officials.

But I’m definitely in favor of a runoff too.

Why not just register in the party?

Anonymous wrote:If Elrich wins, do you think Blair will run as an independent or run a write-in campaign? He should. Elrich has about maxed out his support. He'll pick up most of Leventhal voters and some from the other candidates, but I think most of those who voted for Krasnow, Frick, or Berliner would vote for Blair over Elrich. Plus, with Robin Ficker as the Republican candidate, I think you'd get a lot of Republicans voting for Blair as well, in an effort to avoid Elrich.

Does anyone know the rules about a primary candidate running as an independent or write-in in the general election? Are they any? And anyone have any guesses on whether Blair would pursue that or just let it go?

I can't believe the spread is less than 500 votes.

Maybe. It’s likely the first thing he’s failed out. An ego that goes for the top office out of nowhere won’t give up easily.

Yes please.

+1 Any insight on what group tends to vote absentee the most?

Most absentee voters are older, educated and well informed.

Could be the difference that puts Blair over the top

Because not everyone wants to be affiliated with a party. I’m a registered Dem but DH is moderate and unaffiliated- he tends to lean more Dem in general elections but it’s partly because in his words, the Republicans “just don’t give me anyone decent to vote for.” Although he’ll probably vote for Hogan because he’s suspicious of anyone who promises a lot of free stuff without a viable way to pay for it. And as a commuter who has to drive he likes that Hogan is at least addressing congestion and road improvements.

That being said, the political reality is that in a county like this you don’t have much of a voice if you’re not registered with the dominant party. When I gave him descriptions of the country exec candidates he liked Blair and Frick (and not Elrich) like I suspected he would. But I couldnt convince him to register. He was already sick of the canvassers coming to visit me and all the junk mail, so that would have been doubled.

The first set of absentee swung to Blair. Elrich lead was cut in half. That was about a third of the new votes to be counted. Looks like it is going to take up to certification deadline to have winner.

PP who asked. I think I'm like your husband. I would've thought of myself as moderate for most of my life. But now I see the GOP as fear-mongering, hateful, and greedy. Able to get elected, but unable to govern, and I cannot imagine voting for them. So I registered as a Dem bc I wanted a say.

Thanks!

Seems like provisional would go to Blair -- new to County, party affiliation changes, etc. This is so close. Congrats to those that voted -- every vote truly counted.

THere's no way to know that. And there are thousands of provisional ballots outstanding. We will see next week what happens.
