If Elrich wins I'm moving to Canada.

Of course there is no definite way to know. But logically, you would think these favor Blair- Republicans switching parties and new folks to county without any history with Elrich. Just like if the absentee to be counted were ones the came into Silver Spring address, you would think they would favor Elrich (which could be the case, not sure if that information was released). Obviously we will see next week what happens but it does seem to be moving slightly more favorable for Blair than election night results. |
This really is incredible. I can actually see the winner at the end of this eking it out by fewer than 100 votes. I have no idea how the provisional votes will go.... I can see those mirroring election day votes more, in which case maybe Elrich has a slight advantage but really its pretty much even. Blair seems to have an advantage with the absentee votes. Really hoping he pulls it off. Whatever the outcome, I think this shows how we desperately need run-off voting in MoCo. Or adopt the CA formula - open primaries and top 2 advance to General. |
Just came from there. Way more liberal than Elrich. |
| OMG Mike Subin is one of the people counting. Heh. |
| I voted for Blair, but to think that either is going to win by less than 100 votes (or in that vicinity) while thousands of voters that selected other candidates are out there with no say in the final result is absurd. I agree we need runoffs or ranked voting. Either way, we're not exactly hearing the voice of the people, or getting even close to a majority. |
| The additional absentee from today were added and Blair cut into lead even more. Now 149 vote difference. No more updates until next Thirsday. |

The Post weighs in in favor of ranked choice.
Also, this: “The victor of the primary, which featured four other candidates in addition to Mr. Blair and Mr.?Elrich, is extremely likely to win November’s general election race, given the county’s lopsided Democratic majority.[b] (Just one potential wrinkle: an 11th-hour candidacy by a Democrat shedding her party affiliation to run as an independent, who would have until Monday evening to file a declaration of intent.)[b] Whoever emerges, the winner’s authority would be undercut by having emerged from such an atomized primary.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/montgomerys-low-yield-razor-thin-primary-shows-its-time-for-voting-reform/2018/06/30/084d5666-7bce-11e8-80be-6d32e182a3bc_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.b5d8a396c8ac |
The post is just sore that Blair is losing (for now). |
| Nancy Floreen just filed to run as an Independent for the MoCo Executive job! Unclear whether she’ll be deemed eligible since she’s still currently registered as a democrat (can’t change party affiliation 21 days before a primary) but am hoping she gets to run. Not that I know much about her but in case Elrich wins the primary, I am firmly in the anyone but him camp. Seriously laughed when I saw this.... good for her. |
That's only because you don't know much about her. I strongly disfavor Elrich as county executive, but I even more strongly disfavor Nancy Floreen and Robin Ficker. |
I don't know much about MoCo politics, but Nancy Floreen has a bad reputation for using procedural loopholes to push through development plans without allowing for required community input. |
Nope. If elrich is the D nominee and Floreen runs as an independent, she will crush him if for no other reason than that people effing hate elrich and will be glad of a choice that isn’t Ficker. I don’t give a shot that she is pro-development. Better than having Hugo Chavez running things. |
