Can’t attend best friend’s DD’s bat-mitzvah: how much $ to give as gift?

I do too if you are close. We gave $300 to the sons of very close friends at their bar mitzvahs.

People give wrapped gifts, too. Whatever you feel comfortable giving and feel led to give will be received graciously. My daughter had her Bat Mitzvah last fall and got money, gift cards, a Jewish star necklace, a jewelry box, a purse, a Vera Bradley tote bag, earrings, etc. Some came from families, some from friends. We appreciated the gifts, but even more we appreciated those who made the effort to come and shared in our daughter's special day.
