How common is a math or reading MAP score at the 99th percentile in this area?

Which seemed not great, to me. No idea what GT means for 3rd grade, or how it's different from whatever regular differentiation they do.

Anyhow, he's an ok student, but good at tests!

Must be Inview scores. they don't take PARCC until third grade.

Yes, that sounds right.

Either way, seems like there are a lot of 99%-ers in our school.

I teach in Bethesda and see a lot of 99th percentile students. Probably 4-5 out of each class of 25-28.

If 4/5 out of 25 got 99%, the county's charts would look a little different. That's 20% of the kids scoring at the top 1% nationally. MCPS scores are not that much better than the national norms, but hey if you want to believe C2.0 is that superior be my guest.

Yes, but this is common in the Bethesda/Potomac schools. Scores level out county wide.

My son is in the 98th-99th percentile and was not selected for magnet programs.

My daughter is inside the 99th percentile. We'll see how she does for the CES exam she's taking this year!

Wish there was a kid lock feature on this site.

In my son's school the average is 91-96 so there are a good number of people at 99 or anywhere in the 90s.

How common is getting a 272 in Math when you are 11 years old?

I’m sure it’s rare. If it helps to have a point of reference, my DS got a 274 MAP-M at age 10.5, and it was clearly an outlier for his CES program. I got the impression that they hadn’t seen a score that high for fourth grade. His teacher sent him to the principal’s office straight away to deliver the happy news.

So, kudos to your 11 year old!

My DC got 268 at age 10 (middle of 5th grade). No idea how common it is for kids to be in that range.

My DC had around 96th% in 4th in math and was highest in the class in a W feeder school. I don’t have that info for any other year so I can’t speak more broadly than that.

I got a 261 for MAP M in 5th grade. I have been in the 95 percentile all my life for MAP M. MAP R, I got a 237 in 5th grade, and have been in the 90 percentile all my life. FYI, I am in 5th grade.

BTW, I am in the CES Program. That is just advanced reading though, math is still advanced, but i would get that somewhere else too.
