yeah, that happened to me last year. and then I got that email saying we'd be doing it all over again. don't call your chickens just yet... |
| I just got in. |
You can try. Same thing happened last year and I got an email saying they had deleted everything and asked people to sign up on a second day. don't worry. it only took 40 minutes last time. |
Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter if you were able to get in this morning or not (and it looks like you got in after they “suspended” it anyway), because so many people couldn’t register, they will void the system to be fair. Of course, none of this is fair, really. |
Not necessarily. It sounds like they got the system up and running less than two hours after scheduled. They'll give it a little bit to make sure people are able to register without it crashing again, and then they can send an update saying it's open again. They know if they avoid and reschedule it this will just happen again unless they stagger the registration dates, so unless they're going to go that far they might decide to just make this work. |
| Once you submit your registration request, when do you typically find out if you have care? |
|
They should have a week to sign up and then a lottery if there are more applicants than spots.
That would be fair. |
I disagree. Anyone in for this school year should be able to automatically roll into next year. Then siblings not currently enrolled should be able to register. And then they should open registration to everyone else. |
I don't agree with this. It would be great for me but that would mean anyone who didn't get in one year is then penalized in perpetuity. The issue is this, late the system is not prepared to handle the load. They need to stagger registration over the month of April. Registration for 25% of the schools opens each Monday of the month. I am sure 90% of people register during week 1, if not on day 1. So any stragglers should not have much impact on the set of schools starting the next week. |
| 11:18 - or they could just assign each school a separate date to register and spread the love out over a month. If you miss your date, you could register any time after that. So they would maybe want to start with the most populous schools. |
There are not hordes of people NOT getting into extended day!!! I still fail to see what all the hysteria is about. People move in and out of the county during the year. People's employment status changes. Kids come and go from extended day and everyone survives. And I guarantee that if having your child attend extended day is the difference between you earning a paycheck or not, they will find a way to fit you in. However, it is not the only option for many Arlington families, it's just the most convenient one. |
So why do you need to be rolled in automatically if it's so easy to get in each year? |
|
OP here. Finally home at the end of the day and was able to submit the registration with no problem. Of course it says that does not guarantee student enrollment. I tried for 30 minutes before work but was in a conference all day and only now able to try again. Ugh.
I think families who are currently enrolled should be allowed to re enroll (automatically) a week before the general registration. |
| Can this system do anything right? |
| New to APS this year. Which schools actually have waiting lists? How common is it? |
