MIL thinks a third home is more important than DH... time to cut her off?

Anonymous
Wow, so what she's really asking is for that $10 million to be spent on a 3rd home, which will then go to BIL? That's really disgusting favoritism, measured out in actual dollars, and I imagine your DH must be really hurt. I think you have every right to cut them off. His parents sound like entitled jerks who never see consequences for their actions because people are always sticking around for their payout. Cut them off and feel that weight disappear.

High net worth individuals invariably use trusts, not wills, to protect their assets. Generally these individuals do not pay cash for houses, as they manage their property equity with the smallest down payment and leverage their cash in high return investments.

Agree on trust vs wills. But most 10 million personal use homes are bought with cash.

Even so, the MIL can bequeath the property to the DH. He can then do as he pleases with the property. It's not an either/or.
The MIL purchase of the home does not prevent her from leaving $10 million to the DH.
This story fails the reasonableness review.

the story doesn't make any sense
OP is very upset about how ILs invest their money and then only casually adds that her DH was cut out of the supposed will.
