People who went to crummy colleges go overboard with grad/prof college bragging?

Curious to know where OP went to grad school. I'm guessing she didn't, but has an undergrad degree from some place waaay better than Florida State.

Hilarious. You think he lives in fear of people asking where he really went to college, thus teasing out non-peer background?

He wants to be known as a "Georgetown Guy" rather than "UMD Guy". I don't think he lives in fear of it, he just wants people to associate him with Georgetown. He just dismisses his former ties to UMD, although he was all in on that before Georgetown was in the picture.

I forgot to mention that he has stayed at the same company he interned with when he was in college 20 years ago, but hasn't moved up all that much in the ranks. So it's not like his Georgetown connections have helped him become upwardly mobile.

You don't sound like a very good "friend".

Why else would anyone GAF about something like this? Insecurity sought validation with this thread.

My sister in law attends UNC Greensboro, but makes people think she attended Chapel Hill. ????

Maybe I'm not but he's fake and I learned his true colors when he acted like a completely different person once he latched onto Georgetown the way he did. So we're cordial and friendly, but no longer very close friends. He showed a few signs here and there that he was a social climber and somewhat fake, but the Georgetown stuff was kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. He pulled the same elitism when it was time to buy a house and would only consider certain zip codes because of how it would look from a social perspective. Just not the kind of person I want to be close with. To each his own.

Getting into undergrad can also have a lot more to do with family connections and $$ than getting into the same school for grad or professional school. OP sounds like she's offended that some upstart from a state school has the nerve to posture like she comes from the upper-crust legacy-admit crowd.

Undergrad has very little impact on your career compared to grad. Nobody cares if you made the honor roll in HS if you couldn’t keep it up through college. Let people support who they want to support.

And my brother walks around decked out in UVA gear even though he started at Nova at age 21 and transferred to UVA under the guaranteed admissions program. To each his own.

What is the matter with you people?

Wow...that is mean. Your brother actually graduated from UVA and you begrudge him because he went to a CC and worked to get into UVA? That's even worse than OP

I'm a big Alabama football fan. I went to Berkeley.

My parents, cousins, and grandparents went to Bama.

As a guy I'm more impressed by the hottie from Florida State than the sour milk Georgetown grad student.

That’s not the same thing. Your brother actually got a DEGREE from UVA. Jealous?

I played a D1 sport at a lesser known school that has cut many of its large sports programs. I went to law school at a large SEC school with great sports. So, my law school team is often on TV for various sports, the football games are really fun, so that’s who I cheer for and I am proud to be a graduate.

I am sure both of my schools are below DCUM standards (although I am a successful professional) and I could care less if you judge me for wearing school gear, but sports are my thing, always have been, and a very fun hobby for my DH and I.
