Call Me By Your Name

The things they had him do in the movie also made the younger character seem very young. Didn't he sit in one of his parent's lap at one point?

What are you a moron? 17 is not a legal adult you idiot so yes it most definitely is pedophilia, child rape and more

Ditto- I mean can you imagine for a minute if it does need to moment this was a 27-year-old man and 17 roll girl!!! The show would’ve been yanked out of all theaters… We found it disturbing and walked out even before halfway done and interestingly at least the theater we went to we were not the only ones

A 17 year old is not a legal adult but most definitely NOT a child.

Listen it’s very simple to figure out if you’re not an adult then you’re a child, and then there are laws a 17-year-old is not a legal consent adult. How hard is this to understand for goodness sake

Off the top of my head I really can’t think of any. Help me out.

Is Big with Tom Hanks unacceptable because he’s 12 but looks like he’s mid 20s?

Big counts. Other movies with age-inappropriate relationships include Twilight, Lolita, Animal House, The Crush, Tadpole, The Graduate, American Pie, Wild Things, Manhattan and probably a dozen other Woody Allen movies.

Edward and Bella were both 17

Pedophilia is attraction to a pre-pubescent child. Absent a hormonal deficiency, that does not describe a 17 year old. There's a world of difference between a sexual act with a 17 yo, and such an act on a child who has not yet gone through puberty.

Yes, this is the clinical definition (I work in mental health). I thought the relationship depicted was inappropriate by today’s standards, but it was not pedophilia.

IN most places int he world, 17 is above the age of consent. I think it depends on stage and development.

If the 17 and 24 year old are both in college and there isn't a power differential and there isn't an unhealthy dynamic, I have no issue with it.

If it is a 17 year old senior and a 24 year old who has graduated college and is in the work force - the gap seems much broader (financial difference, stage difference, less in common).

17 and 24 could be two young adults or it could be a child and an adult - depending on the dynamic and their development. Age doesn't define maturity

I don't know if anyone watched the age gap love series on netflix. A number of the relationships started when the younger person was 16 (in UK so legal). The ones on the show became long term marriages and relationships. Still feels wrong on many levels when you watch, even when they have been together 10-15 years.

A bunch of women screeching about two young gay men?

You obviously know nothing about the gay world. This is very normal. In fact the age disparity isn’t even that much. There are even old/young gay fetishes involving multiple decades.

If you’re bothered by it, yes, you’re a prude. There is no padeophila here.

Age of consent is 16 in MD.

I'm not a prude but imbalance of power is gross and I hated 50 safes also, it's an abusive relationship.

Yep. You’re a prude and you clearly know nothing about the gay world.

I am not a prude and you clearly have no clue about abuse.

NP here. I think calling someone a prude for knowing nothing about “the gay world” is childish. I may not know “the gay world” but I know my kid. If my 17 year old was starting a relationship with a 24 yr old grad student (man or woman) I would be concerned. And yes, the power dynamics are especially troubling. So maybe consider that point of view before you insult a bunch of women about a lack of knowledge of “the gay world”.
