Short commute. Home every night. Still nerdy But it looks great on him now. Great personality, not arrogant, not entitled I think because he was always the under dog.

I maxed out around $100k and then quit to raise our 3 kids. We are not even 40, and just happen to be AA

Lots of stress if you’re both alcoholics?

AA = African American

I’m so confused as to why she added her race at the end. And “just happen to be AA”? Wtf does that even matter?

as another AA, it was encouraging for me to see this, the statistics for minorities are even rarer than majority races. Just nice to know. Is that such a problem? Like hearing stories of the thriving female CEO. Nothing wrong with it.

In grad school. We were poor grad students, dated, got married. His family is old money, very wealthy. I didn’t know until we’ve been married for awhile. We don’t have to work, don’t need the salaries but do anyway. No one knows how rich we are because we don’t flaunt it. We live like most UMC families.

BBQ.

+1 I'm a white woman, and I agree.

Pro tip: If you are interested in a rich straight partner, as I was, avoid events involving AIDS or breast cancer. If you want a rich gay partner, seek those events out.

Why would gay dudes support breast cancer events???

Because what were you picturing they looked like before she wrote AA?

That's why.

I...wasn't. I didn't read any of these stories and stop to picture what the OP and her husband looked like. It doesn't really seem relevant, at all.

If we're going to bring looks into this, I think everyone should come back and tell us whether their husband is hot and how much older he is - THAT would seem semi-relevant.

Met him when he was as broke as me. Was attracted to him because of his looks, body and personality. Now been married for 30 years. Initial years of marriage we lived very modestly but with him I always got amazing hot sex, so the lack of money did not bother me.

Scored an invite to the Palace Ball. So I went and wound up dancing with a breathtakingly handsome and charming man. The clock was about to strike midnight and I realized that I had to get home right away. I gave him a longing look and hurried for the door, running down the palace steps (dropping my shoe in the process) and dove into my waiting coach just in the knick of time.

As the coach pulled away I could see him running down the steps after me and picking up my shoe. I wondered if I would ever see him again.....

Maybe, she added AA because, let's be honest that the "default" is not AA. Be honest with yourself. Even if you did not think about race, if I asked you what race or if I asked you to close your eyes and picture that couple, most would not picture AAs. But, AAs can be wealthy and not be sports stars or entertainers.

The DC area has a good number of them.
