A few of us were out at a now-defunct lounge in DC - me (had just moved in with my husband), with two single girlfriends, one who was looking for a rich dude, and another more down to earth one. This guy ended up next to our little group at the bar while we waited for drinks, and we all started talking.
Rich-guy-hunting friend looked him up and down - decent looking guy, and very nice, but not very tall, not wearing designer clothes or an expensive watch, hairline receding a little - and snubbed him. Down to earth friend talked to him for a while, thought he was interesting and handsome, ended up giving him her number and went on a date with him the very next day.
Long story short, they were instantly inseparable and madly in love. It just so happens that he is also fabulously wealthy. They've now been married for years, have beautiful kids, are living in a fabulous home on the beach, and traveling the world as a family. Rich guy hunting friend is still single and looking for that 6'3" multimillionaire. Ironic.
This reminds me of a friend I have. About eight year ago we were at a business social event. Near us was a group of men and I knew one of them from a prior company. After catching up he mentioned us all going out to eat. I had a feeling one (or a few) of his friends liked some of my friends. Anyway, one of my friends is very pretty. She resembles Cobie Smulders. Just a very pretty woman. At that time she recently got out of a long term relationship so she wasn't looking to date. But, one of the guys we went out with that night was interested in her. He was nice, fairly handsome and well mannered. He wasn't decked out in expensive clothes or anything. Well, after two months (they kept in touch) she decided to start dating him. He wasn't the most attractive guy from that group. I remember the other two looked like actors/models.
Turns out his family is one of the largest real estate owners in the DC area. He has over 100 properties and is worth millions. The funny, he didn't tell her or even mention this until well after the first year they dated! They're now married with one daughter. Lesson learned: For all you ladies who think you know a man from his looks. You don't.
