I hate my manicurist talkin to her co-workers on their own language

I know, I read those threads. People actually responded to that OP like she was a sane and normal person. Takes all kinds, I guess.

I'm an Asian woman who gets my nails done. The thing that I hate is when I'm headed toward the salon and some non-Asian woman headed the same way, asks, "Oh, hi, are you going to work?" Or if I'm waiting near the counter to pay and they say, "are you available?"

the thread that should have died an honorable death becomes full circle-COEXIST!

I hear you sister. I'm not Hispanic nor I speak Spanish but at doctor's offices and all over the place where people see my last name they start speaking Spanish to me. They assume it just based on my last name to the point to send me newsletter and correspondence all in Spanish. The most terrible part is when they "assume" I don't have health insurance and "politely" they ask if I can provide proof of identity assuming I'm illegal.
I just had to learn to ignore it.

Negative Nancy? What is this, 1952?

I don't get your need to trash that particular poster at every possible opportunity. Maybe it's time to examine your freakish obsession with her.

I think its really rude when you are there and people are speaking in other languages...

plus. I dont think your LAWYER or higher class would speak different languages while do your divorce or a DOCTOR from another country could speak with the nurse or his helper in another language while he does your intravaginal treatment.

Different culture=different kind of costumer services.
by the way in the U.S. I don't think there is a good custemer service ANYWAY. sometime syou barely finish your meal and your CHECK is right there.... RIDICULOUS...

Thank God... those things doesn't happend in my country.

It's also a matter of cost, level and type of service. If you go to a doctor or lawyer, it is for health or legal reasons and costs more than $15. You also have a private, individual appointment, without many other people in the same room during the consultation service. Restaurants with workers who speak the same foreign language also speak to one another in their native tongue in front of customers. But the type of work does not involve sitting in the same open space working on customers; they are usually moving about seating, serving, busing etc.

who's obsessed? she's so obvious about who she is, she might as well start using her full name.

I am ridiculously white. Literally, I have been ridiculed in public by strangers for being so white.

I always get asked for ID at the doctor's. So don't assume it's a racial thing.

Ditto. And I have red hair and green eyes.

Wow, I'm Hispanic, look Hispanic, have Spanish last name and I've never been asked to provide proof of being legal or had anyone assume I don't have health insurance.

It's one of the reasons I love living in the DC area. I fit right in.

You're the one who dragged her wedding into this thread. What's it to you?

i know for a fact they are talking about me, because i have webbed toes and i've seen them try to come over and take a peak when the other one obviously thought it was funny/odd. i really don't care. i can't imagine having to go through a whole day at work and not be able to communicate because i can hardly speak english. if i had to do the same thing but only speak in Spanish or something I can't imagine how exhausted I would be.

OP, how come you didn't mention you have WEBBED TOES? You can hardly blame them for talking about that!!!

i'm the one with webbed toes...not the OP. I think its RUDE to expect people to speak in English, especially, when they are not talking to you.
