CHIP is children's health insurance. It's not helping people who won't lift a finger.

Don't they get Medicaid? We have three insurance programs to give care to poor and low income (free if they can't afford it): Medicaid, Obamacare, and CHIP. Do we really need all three? If people aren't poor enough for Medicaid, then they get free care through Obamacare. We don't need CHIP, too.

We had Medicaid LONG before CHIP. It should should have been abolished when Obamacare was enacted. How many duplicate ways do we need to provide care for the poor? It's like that WaPo article with food.....the poor family had concurrent options. They could eat the shelter meals taxpayers were provIding, or they could use their food stamps the taxpayers are providing, or they could eat at a restaurant with the welfare taxpayers are providing. All at the same time.

I wish. There are thousands of responsible, self-sufficient couples who would die for the chance to adopt a needy child. I wish we COULD remove children from irresponsible parents who can't take care of them. But unless the poor parents are outright abusive, we can't. Unfortunately.

I came to this country with virtually nothing and over the decades I worked multiple jobs during the first several years because I had a family to feed and clothe and provide housing. Not once did I think that the government was obligated to take care of my children because I was not able to make enough money. Over the years, I did well for myself and put three children through college - two through medical school and one did her MBA. They are all self-sufficient as are we (their parents).

There were years when our Sunday treat for lunch was eating at McDonalds because that was all that I could afford.

My story is not unique - there are millions of others who do the same thing and then there are millions who are encouraged by the likes you and your ilk to create a society where people don't want to fend for themselves and expect the government to take care of them and their children. You people are destroying this country and you don't even realize it.

BTW, I don't care for Trump at all - I think he is uncouth. But if Republicans will do a serious job of welfare reform without hurting the poor who really need the help, they will have my vote.

There is a difference between those who are genuinely in need - and they should be helped - and those who just expect others to provide for them, and they can go to hell as far as I am concerned.

Bullshit. I went through adoption. No one wanted toddlers or school aged children with health issues/drug exposure or histories of neglect or abuse. The agency in my area that deals with these children is BEGGING for people to foster, never mind adopt. You are ignorant of the issues, clearly.

That's not the answer. The answer is trimming the fat that is "Defense" spending. Let's see stats on that.

BTW no one here is advocating more spending on CHIP we are trying to preserve its existence.
