I was 43 and my H was 48 when our youngest launched. I am pretty sure my sister and her H will be in their 80s IF their kids all ever leave the homestead.

No, but I would think most people on DCUM have children who go away to college, which is what Empty Nesters are: parents who no longer engage in day-to-day parenting, year round. Sure, your kids come home, maybe even live at home in the summers or after college. But having lived AT college for a while, the are older, changed, and you are not playing the same role.

Just to give you all another perspective.

It won't be empty nest but I'm even looking forward to when the first two are done with HS and we only have a 16 year old left. It's looking like our youngest is going to be a pretty confident, independent kid.

Of course, life happens when you're making other plans...

We will both be 49 when youngest starts college. We’ll have a few years of tuition there but then would love to take what we have been spending on schooling and travel more. God willing health will be on our side and we’ll have time on that end to spend on us.
