Men: why are so many of you seemingly turned on by virginity?

Anonymous
Any man who has a thing for virginity has never actually slept with a virgin. God it's terrible sex

My DH didn't care that I was a virgin, but he certainly kind of liked the idea that there was no one else before him. He was shocked I was a virgin, though.

The reason it's a turn-on is the woman is unspoiled and new. The same reason people like new cars instead of used cars I guess. I had a friend (ok we dated for a while) and she told me in her younger wild years, she went into the men's room of a nightclub and had sex with 15 guys in a row. Now, how many guys want to imagine their girlfriend/wife being that person?

Also, a woman can have only one first time, so it's a nice feeling to know you're the one.

On the negative side, it means they have no experience, and also the first time, it may be more pain than pleasure and that's no fun.

Um, a man can also only have one first time

???

It's different. I bet most women remember their first time much more than for men. It's a bigger deal. You know that woman will remember you forever, even 30 or 40 years later. She's going to remember her #1, but not necessarily #5 or #8.

If you ever saw the move Kids, there's a famous quote in the movie about it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0113540/quotes/qt0230440

I'm a woman and I have very few memories of my first time, actually close to none.

+1 It was a high school boyfriend for whom I still have a vague affection, but the sex was wholly unmemorable. Now my hot and sexually gifted husband? I'll always remember that first time with a little tingle.

yeah but these are all nearly impossible things to do.

I am in my 50's and never had sex with a virgin; pretty sure that is impossible for me today,

It is about innocence and reliving the youth, including the awkwardness. Knowing you are boldly going where no man has gone before.

I get it.

Apparently you can buy it!

I wonder if she had to have a doctor examine her and certify it...

This is done in many countries where women are expected to be virgins on wedding night. They even have doctors who do hymen restoration surgery (not kidding).

Based on this thread, it seems like "first times" are a lot more meaningful to men than women. Most of my friends don't have their first lover's face (or in many cases name) burned into their memory. Generally the experience fell somewhere between terrible and meh, and was in late high school or early college, often in the context of a fairly casual relationship. If men want to be remembered, they should focus on developing an actual, meaningful relationship or being truly outstanding in bed. Just being someone's first doesn't do anything.

Is she really really still a virgin after sticking a hairbrush in there since age 12?

THIS. Two were enough for me to realize I never wanted to be someone's first again.

I had sex with two long term girlfriends who had been virgins. It went well enough, but I didn't have a lot of experience myself or high expectations. I was a virgin with the first and, with the second, had only ever been with the first girl. This all happened when all concerned were in the 18-20 year age range.

A couple of years later, a girl I'd casually hooked up with a few times wanted to have sex. (We were both 21, I think). She was a virgin. I was nothing special to her, and she was nothing special to me. I don't think she so much wanted to have sex as she wanted to get her virginity over with. I passed on the offer. Making out was fine, but all of the baggage that seemed to go along with sex at the time didn't seem like that much fun.

What is the source of this graph? It seems very poorly assembled. The y-axis is % of marriages that didn't end in divorce after 10 years? Did they control for things like religion? I believe there is high overlap between people who marry as virgins and people who don't believe in divorce - often very religious people feel this way.
