Damn fair point. |
The truth is that people who become wealthy and powerful are more likely to be assholes. There is social science supporting this. We think it's a Hollywood problem because these this industry is visible to us--it's players are celebrities, on our screens and in the news. But the big players in Hollywood aren't, as a group, any more "messed up" or corrupt or evil than the big players in any other industry. You can't swing a cat on Wall Street without hitting some obscenely successful sociopath. |
Had no idea that Harvey Weinstein was such a dirtbag but then I don't follow the film industry much. Glad to see that this has finally become public. Bill Cosby, Bill O'Reilly, Roger Ailes, and now Harvey Weinstein. I hope we're seeing a sea change in how these things are handled going forward! |
A few years ago he received a Humanitarian Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center's National Tribute Dinner. He was talking about fighting anti-Semitism around the world. He said something like- we have to be as organized as the mafia- that is how we built this company ( that is telling of how Hollywood operates). He is ok for standing up for Jewish people but feels it is ok to victimize women. He is not the victim this time but the perpetrator and predator. |
Honestly, seeing all the shock that has been at this announcement makes me feel very disconnected from the average person. Speaking as an employment law attorney who tends to work for the "bad guys," there is hardly a man who, given a little power over people he finds sexually attractive, doesn't misuse it. A lot of you posting in this thread probably have husbands, sons, brothers, fathers, male friends who have sexually harassed and/or are currently sexually harassing someone. The way to address this epidemic isn't to wait for the victims to come to light. It is to realize that we have to watch any man in power very closely. |
The funny thing is, he has a gorgeous young wife. |

Why does me deflect this issue in his apology from himself to the NRA. I don't support the NRA but it is sick that this sicko does not see the implications of sexual abuse of women. He wants to turn the focus away from the women he victimized to victims of gun violence. They are all victims Weinstein! He will never understand the magnitude of his behavior because he is a true narcissist. |
David Wexler gives him a pass by saying "the social forces that shaped him". In other words the industry built to be controlled and abused by a few people. Or the thousands of years of abuse of power and women by men. Women know its wrong. No passes, no excuses. Weinstein is an entitled hypocrite and predator who is supported by other power hungry people. |
What can we expect at the next awards show is silence. Hypocrisy |
What we can expect from the next awards show is some kind of lifetime achievement award, just like Woody Allen and Roman Polanski. |
Well, they will be silent about their own dark shadows but have plenty of hate for Others who are scapegoat groups. I guess it is fine to publicly hate on people as long as you don't bite the hand that feeds. Did you read that LA Times piece? Weinstein has lawyered up, the daughter of Gloria Allred, Lisa Bloom and it just so happens he is producing a miniseries based on her book about the Trayvon Martin case. And then there is this guff from Bloom about how he is going on a journey to find himself like eat, pray, love or something. |
So many people are complicit in this disgusting saga. A well-known open secret...gross. |
The church The military Sports leagues Universities Name a field where powerful men haven’t taken advantage of women. And I’m talking about headlines from just the past week. |
Women need to arm themselves with body cameras, body armor, and stun guns just to get through a day. Sick men everywhere! All good men out there do your part and stand up for women and children! |
