You think wrong. Roads were paved for cyclists. Cars came later.

Maybe your whole paradigm is wrong?

Or the bike path. Why are they on the road on Beach Drive when there is a bike path right there?

Sometimes that works, but not always. Like downtown DC.

Legally they're not allowed to. Take it up with your elected representatives.

No, I cycle on the road. And you can try being a decent human being about it.

So the question is, why doesn't everyone bike to work?

Try it - you will never go back to a car or metro...

+1. My DH bikes to work, he lost 15 pounds effortlessly and got off his anti-depressants. I'd say that was a pretty healthy move.

Not healthy when you get killed by a car

Have you actually looked at death rates for driving vs. cycling? This isn't a big concern, especially for those of us bicyclists who don't run red lights.

And we love all 3 of you in the DC area; keep up the great work

OMG I LOVE YOU, PP!!!!!!!!!

I'd either get a car like everyone else, or take a bus. But it's idiotic to risk your life (it it really IS that dangerous) just to get to work.

You can't tell me a bike is the ONLY option these people have. No one believes that.

Therefore it's a choice. And they are CHOOSING to risk their life to get to ....... their desk at work.

That's just F'ing stupid.

If I'm gonna risk my life, it'll be to save my kids or my wife. Not for getting to my job.

It's pretty stupid of you to drive to work. So you know you're risking your life/health every time you do it? You should get a job where you telework only otherwise you don't love your wife and kids.

Not if you were paying proper attention to cyclists! We should encourage all activities that curb pollution.
You car contributes to climate change. Are you happy with that, considering what people have lost this month alone? Lives, livelihoods, all they had. Mud slides that killed a thousand people in India. Wildfires that destroyed huge swathes of CO2 neutralizing forest, in Greenland, Europe, and the Americas.

Stop thinking of your own comfort long enough to think of the big picture here.

So a hurricane is my fault because I refuse to risk riding a bike in traffic?

Ok fine. Sure. I didn't realize hurricanes were such a new phenomenon, since I only started driving in 1989

Well you better get used to hurricanes then, because as long as there are cars, I'm not riding a bike.

Are you seriously debating the relative safety of driving vs biking on River Road?

No, just mocking dumb arguments over safety.

Explain how it's mocking when it's an indisputable fact that in a collision between a cyclist and a car, the cyclist is going to be hurt or killed, and the car driver might need to .. go to a car wash to get the blood off?

Agree completely, OP. It's like biking down a highway or trying to drive a golf cart down a highway

Which is why, dear driver, you need to follow the law and give cyclists who are legally on the road the right of way. You do not have right to drive in an unsafe manner.
