This is so dumb. That gives me 135 lbs to play with. At 170, I was a size 8, small 10, and looked great. If I lost weight, I looked ill.

No one looks ill at 160 or 150 lbs and 5'3. Unless your bones are made of lead or something, that weight is not even borderline overweight, it's full on overweight.

I'm 5'3" and like a pp believe that 115-118 lbs is my ideal weight. I'm currently between 118 and 120 but have been as low as 100 lbs and as high as 130 non-pregnant. I looked horrible at 100-110 lbs and pretty darn skinny between 110-115. My SO LOVES my current shape and weight; he likes the fact that I have some boobs and curves.

ITA that weight really doesn't tell much of the story. I saw some old pictures of myself in my 30s when I was a few pounds less than I am now, and believe I look much better now. I've been lifting weights and doing yoga all through my 40s and am firm, toned and somewhat muscular now.

Clothing sizes are a joke. I tried on a 0P dress at Loft the other day that was too big. Meanwhile, I have some classic wool skirts from 15 or 20 years ago that are size 6 that fit well. Boden tells me I am a 4P. Don't pay attention to clothing sizes; go with how you look and feel.

There is absolutely no way you looked good at 5'3 and 170 pounds. Even if you are large boned. Just no way. Fwiw, a size 8 in vanity sizing would have been a size 14 twenty years ago. 170 at your height is extremely unhealthy.

Gotta agree. Even at 5'9" 170 still puts me slightly into "overweight."

At 5'3" that weight makes you obese.

OP here, thank you for all the feedback. I'm obviously going to just aim for feeling healthy and for the weight that clothes feel good on me with, but I did want a "number" goal to motivate me for a little boost of self confidence.

Are Ann Taylor Lofts clothes really that bad? So I shouldn't go by their sizes to measure my success lol?

Pretty sure that if they say that calculation gives them 135 as ideal weight they are not 5'3". 135=100 plus 5 lbs per inch means 5'7"

They're fine but they're vanity sized. Their 0s are cut like real 4s. No, don't measure your success by getting into an Ann Taylor Loft pair of size 2 shorts.

170 is still hefty for 5'7.

Depending on your definition of looking good, you may be correct. But I'm 165 at 5 too, and I am incredibly healthy. I work out everyday, lift weights, have no joint or phone issues. my cholesterol and blood pressure are super low. My blood sugar is perfect.

So yeah, maybe I don't look great according to most people, but I feel great inside and out.

Oh come on, 5'3 and 170 is not an ideal weight but it's also not obese! That's just insulting. It's what, a size 14?

Last time I was a 4, I was around 140 (I'm 5'4"), but I was an iron pumping machine. I was also a 4 in college and was about 125. I know some of it was the difference between muscle & fat, but some of that has to be vanity sizing.

You just described Marilyn Monroe.

Ideal for me is about 132-134 lbs and a size 4. I'm a size 2 if I dip below 125. At 116, random people would tell me to eat or gain weight.

Marilyn Monroe was not 170 lbs. She was more like 120 lbs.

Marilyn Monroe averaged 118 pounds, which is appropriate for a woman her height with curves.
