Anti-Muslim encounter at Reston Trader Joe's

I have never liked Reston.

I have encountered crazier people than that in public. She said Obama is a muslim and possibly in jail? Cra cra. Why are people so outraged at a nut saying crazy stuff to a stranger? Put it in context and stop sjwing.

For all of you who think that this woman is just mentally disturbed - I think you need to get outside of your bubble. I have a "friend" who is EXACTLY like this. She is someone I knew from my college days, who I am still friends with on FB but rarely ever see.

This woman lives in a suburb of Montgomery county (down 270 - think exit 13ish), a WFHM, she is super active in her kids' schools (room parent) - born and raised close to where she lives now. She has always been opinionated and had no problem expressing herself. She frequently would say outrageous things - but back when we hung out socially it was never racist. However, over the last few years she has increasingly put more and more racists and anti-muslim posts on her FB page. She posted about the Rockville illegal immigrant student acussed of rape (charges now dropped) and used it as an excuse to rail against immigration policies. She hates Obama and hates Hillary even more. She would UNQUESTIONABLY be the type of person to do something just like this. She is sane, she is respected in her little bubble and she is teaching her three kids to be racist just like her.

You guys need to know that there are many people out there just like her. They may not live in downtown DC but they don't all live in Kansas or Ohio either. Don't fool yourself that someone has to be mentally ill to pull this off.

If you are wondering why I'm still following her on FB - it's because I really want to know what people like her are thinking. I want to understand how we can be so fundamentally different. This is a person I used to genuinely like. I still don't have any answers but wanted to share - she's not crazy and she's not alone.

This woman is not mentally ill. She is like almost half the country who voted for Trump. She is just saying what they think. Shameful. I hope she loses her job. Kudos to be victim for not smacking her. I don't think i would have had that much self-control.

You're welcome to your feelings, of course, although this woman's behavior seems so atypical. I'm a short-term Reston resident and was very surprised to see where the incident takes place, given what I've experienced here.

Exactly.

It's also remarkable just how immediate people jump to the "they must be mentally ill" line, when a white person does or says something out of convention. Yet... the people making this claim are also regularly of the "personal responsibility" camp. Most of the time, when people are jerks, it's because they choose to be so. They are in control of their behavior. A bit less than half the country is not all mentally ill - being a jerk and ignoring facts is a choice.

I know a Hispanic Wilson graduate who still lives inside the beltway that is the same way. Hates immigrants (he is one), hates Hillary, hates Obama, hates Muslims.


I know a black woman who lives in DC, same thing. (Though she does not hate Obama)
You need to know they are in DC too.

1) The closest TJ's to Great Falls is Reston.

2) Woman should be banned from TJ's nationwide.

3) I do not care that Islam is or is not a race. Most Muslims are good hard-working people. Most are not terrorists. Just like most whites are not members of the KKK or most Jews are not members of the JDL. Singling out people based on the Creed is wrong.

4) I so wish I was there. When she said Obama is a muslim, I would have said: 1) what difference does it make, and 2) Actually, he identifies as Christian. 3) does this mean I can grab you by the P***y, like your dear Leader?

The Obama is a Muslim stuff absolutely kills me how illogical it is. 1) if he was a Muslim, would it even matter? No because there's no religious test to be President, 2) have all these people forgotten how they were REAL MAD when the Jeremiah Wright tapes leaked and how he was obviously a Christian pastor who said "God damn America?" Is Obama somehow both a Christian and a Muslim? How 'bout he's a Jew and a Sikh and a Buddhist and an atheist also? ALL THE RELIGIONS!
