How much "maintenance" on your appearance do you do?

I don't do anything really. I am happy with my natural self at 35. It isn't that I don't have time, I just prefer to spend what time I have on different things (reading, hobby). Looks fade, being interesting is forever.

Finally, some common sense. This is a sad, sad thread.

What's wrong with coloring and styling my hair or having my nails done?

Being interesting and well-kept are not mutually exclusive.

PhD who took vitamins, a long walk, a long bath, and gave herself a mani / pedi and face mask today.

Not much. I have a 30 min routine. dH leaves house at 7am. Nanny shows up at 7:15am and I am showered, dressed, curl hair, light make up and out the door at 7:45am w a bagel. No time for nails, blow outs, waxing, etc. 40 yrs old and no grays yet. Shop online, same size since 2001, avg article of clothing prob $150-250.

How to work 60 hours a week: office time 8am-6pm, short lunch, work at home time 8pm-10pm

Obviously that's impossible if you see your children at all, and the work at home time doesn't count if you have music or tv on, or if your spouse speaks to you.

Make up: Wear it when I feel like it... maybe once a week.

Does this really need saying? Gosh, how unkempt must one be not to even brush one's hair daily? (Unless one has the kind of hair that doesn't allow for brushing).

I have curly hair and don't own a hairbrush. Imagine a life other than your own.

Um, read my last sentence. I'll type it out again, since you seem a bit slow: (unless one has the kind of hair that doesn't allow for brushing). I specifically made allowance for people such as you, but you'd rather be offended than read accurately. yourself.

I get my hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. I get a mani/pedi once or twice a year, but do it myself the rest of the time.

I used to spend a lot more time/money/stress on looking good but lately my beauty regimen is simply getting lots of sleep, hydration and taking care of my skin. I feel perfectly fine with hair in a ponytail with a little mascara, a little concealer and lip gloss. I'm 47. And I look good.

Haircut every 3 months

Daily: wipe face with cleansing cloth, curl eyelashes, brush hair, lipstick.

Shopping: all online and keep a small wardrobe so it's manageable. small number of shoes. purge and give away unused clothes about 4X a year to keep it small

Diet and exercise: eat healthy and log calories, get off at metro a mile from work and walk there and back

OP, you could ditch some of your routine and you'd probably still look lovely.

Wow. That list is very impressive. I congratulate you on your discipline. The Latisse is for eyelashes though right? How much lite in for eye health?

Yes. Latisse is for eyelashes. I have started pretty recently. My eyes have become smaller as I have aged and the lashes have become short and sparse too. I used to have thick and long lashes and big eyes. Most people do not realize that my eyes and lashed have changed because I have started using eyeliner and mascara in recent years, but I have noticed it.

I take a daily tablet of Lutein (40 mg) and it has Zeaxanthin (1,600 mcg) too. I have it with a serving of full fat yogurt because it is fat soluble. I am worried about macular degeneration and one thing I do not want to happen is lose my eyes or my mental faculty as I age. Both things I have seen happening.

I feel that the health of my eyes and teeth is entirely in my hand and if I take care of these two things, I can probably have them for the rest of my life. Similarly, if I can keep my internal organs and brain healthy - through maintaining my bp, blood-sugar, kidney, heart and liver function - then I can be healthy and probably look good. There are things I cannot help very much...the loss of hearing, the graying of hair, the aging of my bones, the middle year spread...these things are happening in-spite of my efforts.

That's the thing about communication: when the first thing you write is stupid and judgementsl, people aren't likely to read any further.

My hair "allows for" brushing, I just choose not to do so. I'd guess brushing daily is more likely to be the outlier.

I guess my twin two-year-olds aren't little, and yes, I count WORKING while doing those things as work. Kind of like listening to music while you work. I'm sorry you're stuck in your lab doing nuclear fission in complete silence for 60 hours a week - it must be hard.

Then what the hell do you do with it? Leave it a mess?
