Question for the well traveled: Where did the food make you sickest?

Anonymous
I've traveled many places but the three times I have ever gotten food poisoning were in Atlanta Ga, from really nice restaurants.

Husband got hepatitis A twice in Beijing. (This was years ago)

Some tips are to eat some local yogurt when you get there to get some of the good bacteria in, brush your teeth with bottled water (check the seal to see if it's been resealed, which may mean it's just local water in the bottle), avoid seafood, especially shellfish, no ice , and if you need a drink while out and about, get a brand name Coke.

However, if you are living somewhere for more than 3 months, start sucking it up and eat the local food. Most of the places I lived overseas for more than six months were in Europe or the better parts of Asia.

I'm not sure about this. Yogurt was an option (or yogurt drinks) but in open containers. Was a little too sketched out still.

Montreal! Hit on the plane ride home. I think it was from breakfast at the marche.

Macau. Things weren't right for months afterward.

Ixtapa, Mexico

I still shudder at the recollection

My cousin went there on a missions project or something. Came home and noticed this bump on her face that got bigger quickly. Went to the Dr's and found out that an INSECT had laid eggs in her CHEEK.

It was effing awful! 20 years later she still has a scar there!

*Sorry for tangent.

^Your poor cousin! OMG, I cannot imagine such a thing!

So I think I'll scratch India off my list of places to visit.

OMG!

Food from LAX stopover on the way to Asia. That flight was the worse.

Why is India worse than other third world places?

It's filthy, poor hygiene and they have a terrible bed bug problem, as well as lice.

How is Delhi belly caught? Just water or food and what can prevent it?

A friend is an apartment manager, and says her bed bug cases ALWAYS come from Indian families. I wonder why.
