Janney auction raised $390K...

Anonymous
Yes, most WOTP schools talk to partner schools to find out what they need and then they fund raise for those efforts, typically providing the requested item itself, not cash. Also there are bylaw restrictions, so when money is going to be used for a school other than your own, that has to be clear to the donor up front, so usually it is a separate, earmarked fundraising effort. Your PTA can't just randomly send funds to another school.

Janney parent here--

1) The OP made that $390K figure up. It's a bunch of crap. The auction less than half of that. Real figure to come. I'll post it here once we get it.

2) I have 3 kids in the school and I don't know anyone who is an obnoxious booster for the school. If anything, we all see the flaws and that's what gets talks about. A large number of us house hunted elsewhere or pre-kids and ended up at Janney randomly. We almost bought in Murch or Lafayette (lost both houses in bidding wars way back in 2008).

Clearly the OP is not a Janney parent, as indicated by both the false figure and their use of the third person. I can only imagine the agenda is, once again, to reinforce stereotypes and get some bashing going. Must be a slow day.

Actually, that is exactly why. The others are much better schools.

Agree with your first sentence, but you don't have any basis for your second. Or can you add some substance to your claim?

Absolutely-look at the comparative scores, and aside from Lafayette, whose building is newer, all the others are smaller/less crowded. The others-even Mann-have more diversity, and all of them have smaller class sizes, and there are non-JKLM schools like Ross and Stoddert that score better. I honestly have never understood the fuss made over Janney, since the other schools have as much or more to offer and dont make such a fuss-you never hear people boosting Mann or Lafayette or even Key, and they always score better than Janney.

Oh, it's about the minor differences in last year's scores and the supposedly greater diversity. And first and foremost, of course, about your annoyance with the perceived smugness of Janney parents based on anonymous posts on this forum. Got you.

Nope, it's the smaller class size, smaller school community, more diverse community (Janney is the least diverse of the 4 in every way), the building, the scores, and not the perceived smugness, but the fact that NO OTHER DCPS ELEMENTARY boosts themselves-I just don't get it when ALL the schools are good, and they are #4 of the 4 in my book.

...but if you need to think that is why I don't embrace the fact that your school is "the best", that's your issue. No one cares but you!

You forgot to mention that a few of the other schools have full time second teachers in those smaller classrooms, and full time art, science and PE teachers (everyone has to have FT music) which I believe Janney does not have, and yet 2 of the 4 JKLMs are half the size of Janney.

You are uninformed. Perhaps don't make comments about other schools without facts.

What is he/she uninformed about? Checking and comparing their profile, etc, it looks like they've got facts on their side.

Bumping. I think a poster said they would post the real number when know. Curious what it ended up being, after costs were deducted.

I'm not a Janney parent, but why would anyone who cares about that school post that information here? It's throwing gas on a fire.

Auction items that didn't sell were put into another online auction which ends tomorrow so they don't actually know the final figure yet.
I'll post it when the school is told the total.
