Not true, the last 2 strikes still happened under that "law".
There is no contract to break anyways.

Which two strikes?

I will be asking about this on conferences Friday.

Instead of asking your child's teacher, why don't you call the mayor's office?

From the WTU Contract:

ARTICLE 33 - NO STRIKE CLAUSE
33.1 During the life of this Agreement, the WTU shall not cause, support, encourage or
authorize any Teacher to participate in any cessation of work through slowdown, strike,
work stoppage, or other similar activity.
33.2 If a strike, slowdown, stoppage of work, or other similar activity were to occur, the
WTU’s agents shall, upon notification of such activity by the Chancellor, immediately
and publicly declare as illegal all such activity and shall order Teachers to terminate such
activity. Failure of the WTU’s agents to do so shall constitute a violation of this
Agreement.
33.3 For the purposes of this Agreement, an employee who is absent from work without
permission, or who abstains wholly or in part from the full performance of his/her duties
in his/her normal manner without permission, on the date or dates when a strike occurs,
shall be presumed to have engaged in such strike on such date or dates. Such a
presumption is rebuttable.
33.4 Any Teacher who participates in any slowdown, strike, work stoppage, or other similar
activity shall be subject to discipline or discharge with the right to appeal through the
grievance and arbitration procedure only as to the determination of the question of
whether the employee so disciplined or discharged did, in fact, participate in, support or
encourage the strike, work stoppage or slowdown.

If they don't have a contact, how can they be held accountable for a clause within it?

It would be a hard time to strike. Since Congress ultimately has control over laws in the District, it would politically costless for them to just legislate DC teachers back to work. Under the current education secretary, it would even give them grounds to do crazy stuff to DC.

Why aren't parents doing more to help our teachers? It's outrageous that 4 years have passed without a contract. We're in protest mode all over the country. I'm sure we could collectively get together for our teachers.

What's the average salary of a DCPS teacher?

I'd support that. What can we do?

Call the Mayor. Tell her you are a DC voter and DCPS parent who supports teachers. Ask her why she won't include retro pay in her offer to teachers.

Thank you!

Is there any info on the other side of the story? I fully support our teachers, but sometimes the union asks for too much. Are the facts of the negotiation laid out anywhere?

There is a rally in front of the Wilson Building on Friday morning from 8-11 (not during school hours and before Parent-Teacher Conferences). Teachers from all schools will be attending.
