Can I file a complaint with HR since our admin came in with the flu?

Good for you OP.

I also employ dirty looks, Lysol, and hand sanitizer. I hate people who come to work sick, I then use all my leave for sick leave and don't get to take a vacation. I have also been known to wear a mask and leave a mask for sick person to wear over their mouth and nose, like they do at the doctor's office.

Do you really want your admin (low paid already) to use LWOP to recover? Why not allow her to telework?

I am all for her teleworking, but her boss (the one who signs her timesheet) won't allow it.

swap her keyboard and mouse with the boss's for a few hours. Then switch them back. Take her boss's handset from her phone, unhook it, and swish it in the admin's trash can for a while, getting it mashed really well against all those germy tissues. Then go wash your hands of course.

(joking of course)

She had 19 days of leave. She used it all up on vacation, didn't save any for sick leave. How is that the fault of those of us who are more prudent and don't want her getting us sick?

It sounds like you have a big bucket of paid time off that had to serve as both sick time and vacation. I think when companies lump it together like that people are more likely to use it as vacation. In fact, I think companies try to make it seem like it is a perk, instead of 12 days of vacation and 5 sick days and two floating holidays we are offering 19 days of paid time off.

Also, if her boss won't allow telework even though others have it, assuming her work product is good, there could be other things at play. If I wasn't allowed to telecommute ,and not only was it possible but others were doing it, and I had to take PTO for every snow flake that hit the sky when school was closed, I would drag myself in with the flu too. I'm not saying that was the exact situation but if she had to use PTO for things that others could have made up with telework, I could see not wanting to save sick time on top of that.

If she really has the flu, there would be no way she could make it into the office and sit at a desk.

Having a cold is not the flu OP, get a grip.

Protect you from what? You could pick up the flu anywhere. Planning to sue John Q. Public? You sound like an absolute delight to be around

PTO is terrible. And it's USUALLY 12 vaca + 5 sick = 15 PTO. Which is whole point.

I feel like unlimited sick would be good but often hear it is accounting sham

Isn't your problem really with her boss who won't let her telecommute while showing symptoms?

Wash your hands. Stop being a bitch.

Really? she used up all her sick and vacation leave cavorting with her fiancé. I drag my tired ass in here instead of staying home. Why should she get one minute of my hard saved leave?

So don't. When you get sick, you'll have plenty of hard earned sick leave to use. Everyone wins.

It's terrible that people are hating on each other when the REAL problem here is that people in this country don't have anywhere enough paid leave!

PREACH!

It's America; people are raised to believe in the dog-eat-dog nonsense from childhood. This is also why we're the only rich country left without universal healthcare and one of the only ones at any income level left without paid parental leave.

Some employers allow you to carry over vacation time, but yeah, I don't buy the 19 days off either.

Most recent research says coming to work with the flu is not dangerous for you or for others. Flu is most congageous when you have your first symptoms, before you actually get sik

How about this. Over the next few months, lobby senior management to host a flu shot clinic early next fall.
