I think when companies lump it together like that people are more likely to use it as vacation. In fact, I think companies try to make it seem like it is a perk, instead of 12 days of vacation and 5 sick days and two floating holidays we are offering 19 days of paid time off. Also, if her boss won't allow telework even though others have it, assuming her work product is good, there could be other things at play. If I wasn't allowed to telecommute ,and not only was it possible but others were doing it, and I had to take PTO for every snow flake that hit the sky when school was closed, I would drag myself in with the flu too. I'm not saying that was the exact situation but if she had to use PTO for things that others could have made up with telework, I could see not wanting to save sick time on top of that.[/quote] PTO is terrible. And it's USUALLY 12 vaca + 5 sick = 15 PTO. Which is whole point. I feel like unlimited sick would be good but often hear it is accounting sham[/quote]
