North Face vs. LL Bean

They are all over TJ Maxx. At least the ones from four years ago.

Then you are failing. Because while they may PREFER status symbols, a teen that has any concept of the world beyond their own little Snap/IG universe of validation would not claim to NEVER wear anything because it was for less money.

i have bought both and find the north face cut slimmer than LL bean which is more flattering or more comfortable tradeoff.

Agreed. I have outerwear from both and the NF is more flattering/less boxy.

To the OP, have you decided which one you're going to get?

I"m an outdoorsy person. If you really want to know which is better, or at least warmer, compare the amount of down fill. Ideally, you want 800 if you want to stay toasty.

Well, if I can get to Tysons today (not a trivial matter, due to the f'ing accident on the Beltway), I plan on checking them both out, since the NF dropped to $179, putting it back in play.

Looks to me like the NF jacket has a breathable but waterproof outer shell whereas the LL Bean jacket is windproof nylon treated for water resistance. Not 100% sure but the NF jacket sounds like it will do better in the rain. But if you're just wearing it casually around town, I'm not sure it's worth spending more just for that.

I won't buy anything online that I can't return easily (for size / style reasons, not after being worn). I've had LL bean stuff sitting in my house waiting for the next time I drive out to Tysons, which seems to get more and more crowded every time I go. Meanwhile, I can buy NF at a lot of places that have free returns. Sadly my LL bean days are over (unless it's something I know I'll keep).

Then you are a fool.

+1 And a fool and his money are soon parted. Learn from the wisdom of your elders. Pay for quality. Not name brands. You will thank us when you are older.

LLBean has 20% off if you spend $50 or more.

I mean both are of good quality.

Obviously, not headed to an Ivy then.

The links show men's jackets. If you're buying for a man, the slimmer fit of the NF probably isn't a big factor.
