Then you are a fool.

Get the NF if you care about having a fashionable brand. Get LL Bean if you care about function.

Everything I've ever owned from LL Bean has been great quality, extremely comfortable, and lasts forever. I've heard they have great warranty and return policies but I've never had reason to use them. Personally I would never pay more for NF.

REI is closing its stores on Friday so its employees can have the day off but they will probably be available on line.

LL Bean is an old brand that appeals to the middle-aged, like me. I love LL Bean. It's not fashionable, but mostly timeless. I have a few fleece jackets from LL Bean that I love. They are warm and well-made and last a long time. Ditto for their polo shirts. I bought several for DH and for the kids, and they last forever. I did buy DD a North Face jacket, which she wore until it practically wore out. She was on the cutting edge of fashion, but stopped wearing it when all her friends started buying North Face jackets (micro-down, or whatever it's called). Now she wears a dumpy, Army-green jacket that's all the rage with her friends. Not my style, but I'm not a teenager.

Oh, sorry, OP. Get the LL Bean jacket if you like it. It's probably better made than the North Face jacket, which is not worth the price at all. And North Face is out, according to DD.

Oh, and BTW, my teenager would NEVER wear anything from LL Bean.

Have you read the reviews for the ll bean jacket? It's not as warm as some had hoped. How old are you? I'd go for NF over ll bean, but that's my personal preference.

If you don't mind random shopping a bit more, I bought a miss metro NF jacket at the maxx for half price.

What color did you get?

The North Face is the Coach of outerwear. It's migrated down market to the masses and has lost its cache.

North Face is not in that category.

totally disagree. It depends on where you live

I disagree. Unique is full of NF and I have to pay extra to give my NF clothes away that are spotless or even have tags on them.NF can be had for $40-$100 from 6pm or ebay.NF and killing is so yesterday, and actually haven't even heard of it. Killing and HH go together.
I'd choose LL Bean or Land's end. Want to be cool? Get Arcteryx or Norrona or Didrikson or maybe Canada Goose.

Or Moncler which is the upper class version of CG.

Personally I like the LL Bean jacket better. The pockets on TNF jacket look very unattractive. Sure you get TNF Logo, but I'd buy the LLBean hands down.
Have you looked into other similar brands - Marmot/Patagonia/ maybe Eddie Bauer has more cache than LLBean, but products are comparable. They have a 3-1 for $250 but everything is 40% off ahead of Black Friday, may go higher on Friday.

Thankfully, I don't take fashion advice from 15 year olds.
