Everyone tells me I need to go on cruises.

Ok but do you ever get seasick..in general?

No but the ships are pretty well stabilized.

Ok this is my point. Everyone just downplays my concerns.

What if I do happen to get sick? I'm stuck being miserable for 3 days? Why is that worth the risk? Why do people always try to convince me it wI'll be fine????

I also get very sick in the back of a car and flipping forget about tour buses. Ugh. Blergh.

Then don't go.
Let me say, I'm extremely claustrophobic. I haven't set foot on an elevator in over a decade. I was worried about feeling claustrophobic on the cruise. So, I told DH let's try a weekend only cruise. We did, I loved it and have been on many cruises.

I've been on one cruise to Mexico. Too much buffet style food, which grosses me out. Doubt I'll ever do another cruise again.

BTW I didn't try to downplay your concerns, you asked if I get seasick and I said no because the ships are well stabilized.

I am not a fan of cruises but I have to say the Disney Cruise was an awesome family vacation. you barely feel the ship moving.

if you don't want to cruise, don't. I don't think anyone else cares. I certainly don't.

Ok sorry if I misunderstood but this argument (the boat is well stabilized) is often used as to why I should go on cruises. It could be that you don't get seasick because you would never get seasick.

I am ranting. My own parents tell me all the time how I should suck it up and try. It's annoying and I wish they would let me have my own preferences.

Why would I want to stay in a smaller-than-normal room, take days to get somewhere, eat bad food, and only have access to cheesy entertainment when I could just fly there and stay somewhere nice?

The Disney cabins are larger, you can select an itinerary that stops at a new port each day (meaning a new country, new beach or town, and new excursion), you can go the entire cruise without eating at a buffet if you prefer a full service restaurant (and your servers follow you from restaurant to restaurant each night on Disney), the food ranges from fine to excellent (I never had a bad meal), and the Broadway style shows on Disney cruises are excellent (and truly magical for kids).

We fly places, too, but we've discovered that Disney cruises are actually pretty great for families with kids since you have so many options and can entertain everyone. And we tend to get bored at resorts after a few days.

We are not cruise people. But after a difficult vacation schlepping our under-6 year olds through the French countryside, we realized that what we really wanted was a vacation in which the kids could go to some kind of kids club and we could unwind and not make any decisions. We spend our days making difficult decisions. And I wanted to do nothing but stare into the water, sit in a hot tub, and eat good food with good wine. So a colleague suggested a cruise and it was great. I didn't love the decor and I didn't love everyone on the ship, but it was just right, and the kids adored the kids club and being able to try all the different food and wear fancy clothes at dinner. It's not a perfect vacation. I much prefer going to Petra or Athens. But if you have young kids and want to sit back and relax, it's a fine way to do that.

If you don't want to go on a cruise, then don't. But you seem to just be ranting here.

I have zero desire to go camping, but I won't start a new thread just to rail against camping.

On a positive note: we have tremendously enjoyed cruising with Disney.

I love when people come on here just to slam an OP for starting a topic that they replied to. We bitch about everything on DCUM. That is what we do. Don't come here and tell us what is and is not an acceptable topic in your personal opinion.

NP here and let's be real, no one (not even her real life friends) cares what OP decides to do on her vacation. When you start whiney topics you open yourself up to agreement and criticism.

So, my brother, SIL and their kids should never go on one, oh wait, they have....and enjoyed it, and done multiple ones. My parents have done over 10 cruises, and most of them were well before retirement.

Nice try.

To 15:32 - you are full of it.

OP, in your original post, you said you don't drink. Is that by choice? I am not sure if that has any bearing on why you would or not do a cruise. On Disney cruises, the kids have their own separate areas that they can hang out in for hours, adults have their own seperate areas as well that kids are not aloud to go in.

I wanted to love a cruise. I love the idea of them because I don't particularly enjoy planning vacations. I've been on two and they're just not for me. Being on a ship, regardless of how big it is, makes me feel claustrophobic and anxious. I also got seasick several days. It wasn't terrible, but I gave it a chance and have no desire to do it again.

Just cruised with our family of seven, and it was awesome! Kids can do whatever they want, no packing and unpacking, no messing with rental cars or checking in and out of hotels, no wondering where you are going to eat your next meal, and on and on and on. Best family vacation ever.

I agree I'm being whiney. It's just starting to chap my ass when I have to justify my desicions to my friends and family when I wouldn't dream of questioning them.

And if they don't care....why won't they STFU about it? Do you know how many times I've been told I won't get seasick and blah blah blah buffets blah blah cheap jewelry blah blah kids club blah blah.

OP here I just had a nice glass of Cabernet actually. I wouldn't be able to drink on a cruise because of the medication I would have to take to handle the seasickness. I guess I could but they make me so sleepy to begin with that one glass of wine and I would feel like I had two shots of NyQuil.

And of course 15:32 is full of it. My dad is a PHD and he was telling me how the head of his department didn't want to cruise and then took once and loved it. My friends are all quite educated too.

I get motion sickness but did not have any issues on the large cruise ship (and it was one of the smaller ones). Smaller boats, for sure.

I'm not saying you should go on a cruise. If you don't want to go, don't go! There are tons of other good vacation options.
