I've been on a bunch. They're fine, but not my preferred method of vacationing. I'm considering an Alaskan cruise in the near future, but to a place like the Bahamas or Carribean - no.
I would NEVER go on one if I got seasick. There are things you can do and take, but if they don't work, you're miserable. I have gotten seasick on a few cruises (and I don't normally) and it sucked. |

No one ever told me this. You must be in the wrong circle, OP. Cruises are for uneducated people, with the exception of scientific research trips - and you would never want to be on one if you weren't passionately interested in the topic at hand. Very uncomfortable!

Oh, FFS.

No but the ships are pretty well stabilized. |
The entertainment is fun. Food is decent. For example, Cayman was stop on one of my cruises. We fell in love with Caymam while spending the day there. Since then we have been theren 8 times. It is not a destination I ever would have thought of going to if it wasn't the cruise. I also has a stop in St Kitts and realized, I'm not a fan. Our teens LOVED the teen hangouts and they made friends they still talk to. |
| We've recently taken a cruise in Alaska, and have done a river cruise in Europe and a smaller cruise ship cruise in the Mediterranean. We chose our companies carefully. I would recommend Tauck Bridges for family travel, and Crystal or Windstar for Mediterranean. I have also heard very good things about national geographic cruises, particularly their family cruise to the Galapagos. I can't imagine I would enjoy some of the other cruises I've heard about, but everyone should do what they and or family wants. |
PP--this is a very good response to a common type of annoying DCUM posts. I plan to quote you in the future if you don't mind. OP--if you never have, you should read some or all of the title essay from David Foster Wallace's book "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again." You can find the essay reproduced on google. It will provide further reassurance that your reaction to cruises is very sensible. |
Norovirus is generally started from food so be careful what you eat and stick with cooked foods - just looked it up. I've been twice and its a big boat and generally pretty stable. We are headed on a Disney Cruise because its easy with kids. |
| I don't get sea sick and love boats but have no interest in going on a cruise. |
Ok this is my point. Everyone just downplays my concerns. What if I do happen to get sick? I'm stuck being miserable for 3 days? Why is that worth the risk? Why do people always try to convince me it wI'll be fine???? I also get very sick in the back of a car and flipping forget about tour buses. Ugh. Blergh. |
| I've heard the three month around the world cruise is amazing. I think it was through Holland cruise line. |
| People tell you this for people who really enjoyed their cruises and just want to share the love. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely not as bad as some people here say it is. |
| My reason to boycott cruises is the way it pollutes the oceans. I also get sea sickness and don't like the idea of being on the ocean. But, I really worry about the pollution. |
| I don't think it would be right for our family. We only have one kid, a 7 year old, and so he's a good little traveler at this point. I think we all might get kind of pent up on a ship, and unfortunately, kids clubs etc. onboard would likely be hit or miss depending on what other kids happened to be there on that particular trip. |
| I'm so glad to see posts about cruising being bad for the environment. I thought I was the only one on this forum who gets upset about that. |
