Would you view me as classy, tacky, or frumpy

I don't know if you are tacky or not, but you do strike me as someone who badly needs to find a hobby, read more, and/or identify some real cause or concern (outside of yourself).

You sound classic but I'd wear heels at 5'q"

Anonymous wrote:With all the threads lately about dressing frumpy or classy or tacky, it got me wondering--how would you view me?

Me:
31
5'1" 130lbs (still losing baby weight from my 10 month old)
Size 6 or 8 depending on brand, usually petite

Brown hair currently cut to chin length with subtle layers, don't color but no grey whatsoever

Wear glasses everyday; not super trendy (eg Warby Parker), just brown plastic rectangular frames

Wear wedding ring and engagement ring (1.5 carat emerald cut solitaire) every day

Always wear basic, light makeup (primer, bb cream, concealer, blush, shadow, eye liner, mascara)

Get my eyebrows waxed every 4 weeks

Typical work outfit (business casual, director level position)

Silk opaque t-shirt (Ann Taylor)
Navy pencil skirt (theory)
Tortoise shell scalloped flats (Sam Edelman)
Pearl studs
Delicate chain necklace
Tissot watch
Navy Michael Kors Selma bag

(Note: very rarely wear heels; wouldn't be caught dead in pantyhose)

Typical weekend outfit:

Skinny jeans (Paige denim)
Solid color tshirt (Everlane)
Chucks
Pearl studs
Plain black leather (no logos) Coach shoulder bag

Thoughts? What should I change?

OP, I think this just sounds boring, and I actually dress a lot like you--lots of the same basics.

I think, if you're looking to change something, you could spice things up with a funky haircut, funky glasses, cool bracelets instead of the watch, different earrings on the weekend, something besides a "delicate chain necklace" (OMG so boring). And definitely get a cooler bag--black Coach bag? Yawn.

You need heels! 5'1" cries out for heels.

Same thought. Who on earth thinks like this?

You are young and overweight, so you probably feel insecure. I get it. As I read your description, I was thinking that you dress so boring for a 31 year old. I would go out and find some fun jewelry, get a cute hair cut, sexy shoes...do something! You are too young to dress so old and boring. Pop of color...anything.

I'm glad someone else thought this, too. I guess what I wear would be considered no makeup.

Yeah, that's definitely not light makeup. I wear what I think is light makeup: mascara, gel blush, tinted lip balm. Concealer for the random zit.

YOu could apply all those things very lightly. I do. DH didn't realize I wore makeup when we first were dating.

I'm the second quoted PP and I wear the same (mascara, gel blush, tinted lip balm, very occasional concealer). To me, that is light makeup while primer, bb cream, concealer, blush, shadow, eye liner, mascara seems like a lot for every day. Then again, I'm not good at applying makeup and have two under 4 so a routine of primer, bb cream, concealer, eye shadow, etc., doesn't work for me.

Nope. Some looks / styles / people are anti-heel. Take that sexist crap somewhere else.

Nope, sorry, I won't. If she wasn't asking for opinions, she didn't need to post. Heels would look much better than flats for her.

Agree. Heels will elongate her legs which she desperately needs. Whether she is wearing pants, jeans, dresses, she needs heels.

Disagree. I always prefer the look of flats. Heels may make her look longer, but not everyone prefers that aesthetic.

Short legs + overweight + flats = frumpy

Not the OP, but I'm 5'3 and after two foot surgeries, heels are just not an option. I weigh less than OP so I don't think I look stumpy, but some people have limited options.

OP, I agree that you sound very insecure and seeking approval. Get an interesting hobby. Invest yourself in something that doesn't concern your appearance. It'll make you more interesting and confident which helps your looks more than any one physical item.
