Where is this that you have to pay for and count your bags?

This is DC URBAN MOMS, honey.

I don't care how they do things in Peoria.

Honestly - based on responses I've read lately I wonder about the percentage of people who live in the DMV vs people from Texas/Arizona/Iowa etc.
50-50?

What? Of course not. I can't even believe people would do that.

Nope. Never.

Wow, bitch, go get your medical marijuana and light up. No one is talking about Peoria. Most people on DCUM live in DC OR THE SURROUNDING COUNTIES, where you don't pay for bags.

Well, she's right though - if you've never even heard of this concept you must live pretty far from here.
Here meaning DC and its surrounding counties - all of which have bag taxes I'm pretty sure.

You can't steal because the bagged area weighs the item to make sure it matches up with what you scan.

Never

The Safeway I go to records everyone in the self checkout.

No, but I was wrongly accused of it at Giant. I showed them everything was accounted for and then just left I was so angry! I am a white woman in her 50s. welldressed, etc. I guess if I were poor and/or nonwhite, such things would happen to me more often.

I have been audited about half a dozen times at Giant after using the scanner you take around the store.

No idea why. One employee told me it's because my purchases vary so much from $20 one trip to $200 the next.

Either way, I'm pretty careful b/c it would be so embarrassing to get busted, even if it was an accident.

Report your message to Jeff, he would gladly tell you. I do think 3/4's of the people on this site live within 50 miles of the DC line. The bag tax has existed in DC since 2010: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/06/dc-plastic-bag-tax-disease_n_2633128.html

I have. When I'm frustrated things are not ringing up correctly.

Wow no. Like it never even occurred to me to try to game it considering 75/% of the time it screams at me to PUT ITEM IN BAG even when item is IN BAG. Can't even imagine the ruckus if I tried to filch from it.

Never stolen from self-checkout, never even thought about it, but self checkout annoys the heck out of me. The machine always get confused and an employee always has to come over and help.

No. However, apparently people often do. I had one time that despite the message on the screen that asked if I had anything under my cart, I didn't check because I knew I didn't have anything under there. Then I got out to my car and while loading the trunk...found something under the cart. I finished unloading and then had to take the item back in and go to the service desk to pay for it. The people at the service desk and the other person in line looked at me like I was some lunatic and couldn't believe that I walked an item back in to pay for it. I still think what I did was normal, but apparently others don't think so.

Are you dishonest in other things? You are out of your mind.
