Good, that shit is trashy, again park that in a commercial area.

But they also don't fit easily in the garages and they have to park pickups on an angle in the garage (which takes up two spots). Insane that the 50k F150 isn't allowed! The HOA rules are old and 20 years ago pickup trucks might have been more utilitarian. It's a ridiculous rule.

Why do you need a pickup truck? It's stupid an SUV or SEDAN is fine, go rent a parking space in a commercial area.

I fail to see how a pickup is any less nice than an SUV or a Hummer? Why should someone get to choose what kind of car someone owns. These are not commercial vehicles (obviously those are outlawed by HOA rules).

I agree. No place for that in a neighborhood. Park it in your garage.

Every mailbox had to be painted Dodger Blue. Developer was a huge Dodgers fan.

They are covenants (contracts) that run with the land. When you buy the property, you agree to abide by the HOA rules.

All of these rules seem totally appropriate to me. Then again, I love living in a condo.

The latest issue I had with them was when trying to build a deck and trying to go through the necessary approval process.

Only to find out that first they only allow wooden decks. Then next you're not allowed to paint or stain your deck.

A major issue with our HOA board is that most of the people on there don't even live in the neighborhood and just rent out the homes. So guess they're not aware of all of the other decks that aren't in compliance. I didn't want to mention that fact because didn't want to cause trouble for other homeowners.

But my own fault for trying to go by the rules.

How the hell are you supposed to keep a wooden deck in good repair if you don't paint or stain it? Oil it?

My special favorite rule from our HOA is no wagon wheels in front yards. I like to think there was a trend decades ago to have huge wagon wheels or maybe even an entire wagon in the front yard.

I still see these all over Vienna/Fairfax split level neighborhoods. I HATE the wagon wheels in the yards. So 1960s/70s trashy. It was the age of faux colonial decorating.

No clue!

Reston HOA doesn't allow the fences in Reston to be stained or painted. And obviously people have trouble maintaining fences there.

Ahh, that's crazy - so it really was a trend! I've always wondered if some nutty board member made this rule up or if it was a real problem once upon a time.
