Expenses paid for by a relative

We attend private school on financial aid and there are many families whose bills are paid by grand parents or companies. It wouldnt bother me. 70% sounds great but are you able to come up with 30% + camps and extras? It is expensive even with help. When kids are older they have growing expectations... It might become a trap.

Normally I would say no but this is too good to pass up. I don't like feeling like I "owe" anyone anything. Does anyone here have stories or suggestions for my situation? Thanks

I really can't stand people like you, OP. My parents had more than enough money to buy me a home and to pay for private school if my kids weren't in public. But AS ADULTS, we don't take handouts.

It's one thing to receive an inheritance but quite another to pretend you're living better than you are b/c you're being supported by a relative with more money.

I know so many people in your situation who take fabulous vacations their parents paid for their homes and supplemented tuition. They won't ever admit to it, but I know their truth.

Or, they are making really good salaries.

Had my house paid for, my HUGE EXPENSIVE WEDDING paid for, European vacations paid for, my IVF treatment paid for, and children's future education paid for ... Suck it.

Do you ever feel like less of a human being? Or a failure? That you can't afford your own tastes or lifestyle, as a grown adult?

Nope. I feel awesome. Pretty much always. In fact my first thought when I wake up in the morning is, " holy crap I'm so lucky!". Then I think about doing something nice for someone else. That way they will feel awesome too.
Feeling bitter and resentful toward other people? Not awesome.

Why not have DH write a lovely thank you note or talk to his grandmother if he prefers directly to say that while your local public school will be a good fit for your children, you have established a 529 college savings plan for each child and would be so appreciative of any contribution made at any time to those funds as it is something to be building for their future lifetime.
