He explained that essay. It was a critique of gender roles and he admits it was horribly written. When you take the quote out of context, it looks bad but the statement itself was not bad. Feminism has changed a lot since 1975.

There are no gray areas here. A 12 year-old rape victim is not fair game for any decent human being.

If the thought of protecting a 12-year-old who was brutally raped has changed since 1975, then we must have been a terribly callous nation in ’75.
I was a young adult then. It has NOT changed that dramatically.
In 1975, the rape of a 12-year-old was outrageous and unacceptable. Period.

Then, as now, the rapist is entitled to a defense attorney, and the defense attorney is supposed to represent him, not the victim. The victim has her own attorney, who represents her.

Absolutely the scum who raped her is entitled to an attorney. And that was Hillary Rodham Clinton.
And, she did a great job defending him because she "smeared <the child> and used dishonest tactics to successfully get her attacker off with a light sentence.” Something she should be mighty proud about. Why doesn’t she crow about this accomplishment as part of her campaign if she is so damned proud of it?

You can find it. His campaign dismisses it as a hippie-era relic aimed at changing sex roles.

I would not say they dismiss it. I saw an interview with him about it and he was apologetic and said that it was horrible writing and pretty embarrassing. It was also written 40 years ago.

I think the same posters who are desperately defending Clinton in this thread are the same posters who are crucifying the poster in the “Democratic Unity Thread” for saying that HRC supporters scolded her for not supporting Hillary because she is a woman.

I just listened to that entire recording. Clinton was able to get the case plea bargained because the State mishandled the evidence. Based on what is on the tape, the State threw away the evidence. I'm obviously not a lawyer, but I think Clinton herself would be subject to malpractice charges if she hadn't pursued that in defense of her client.

That is a different point. I am not criticizing a defense attorney for doing her job. It is her skewering of the young girl and her gleeful remarks. This is the antithesis of feminism.
