I am actually a kosher vegetarian and dying to know what the problem is. And uh, kind of secretly want to try some too...

If you're Jewish I can understand. But even if you're vegan, I think the son has a right to decide what he wants to eat and follow in his life.

Good Memphis Pork barbeque makes my mouth water.

+1 Preach!

Kwanzaa starts 12/26.

BTW DCUMers, Kwanzaa is NOT a religious holiday. Mainstream AA Muslims don't celebrate it so pork at Kwanzaa is not an issue. Growing up, we always had pork in our greens on the last night of Kwanzaa. The last year I celebrated it, my aunt switched to smoke turkey wings because she doesn't really live us anymore.

Can you do an AMA on Kwanzaa? I'm very curious about this holiday and have never met anyone who celebrated.

We've celebrated it on and off for many years. I'd be happy to help with an AMA, OP, if you decide to post a thread on the topic. Hopefully, we can keep it fun and informative. The pp seemed genuine.

I'm AA and Jewish (and my Dad is Catholic), so I've celebrated it all!

Yes! Let's do it! Oddly, I'm AA and Catholic and was married to a Jewish guy.

I wish the OP would explain exactly what the problem is. I can't see a scenario in which a 13 year-old can't make his own mind up about these things. Since its her parents, did she eat pork at 13 or have the right to choose not to?

OP, this is the Ultimate First World Problem.

If you're real, get over yourself.

I feel it should really be referred to as Hamsgiving, from here on out.

We call it Spanksgiving in my family (after a hilarious incident in church where a cousin dared another cousin to say "spanks be to God" and he did and the whole row of us lost it) but I for this thread, I concur

Damn, I was really hoping to find out why the ham was such a problem for a 13 year old. Also, why was there ham at thanksgiving? That's the only day of the year that I probably wouldn't eat ham.

"This has been a weirdly entertaining thread. So troll or not, thank you OP for making me chuckle

Now if your Dad gives your son prosciutto over Christmas, throw down the gauntlet!
