It appears the administration has weighed in with an invite to bring the cool clock to the WH for a visit. Query whether it will be screened on arrival.

Like what? It was a clock.

Maybe the student brought it in as a prank?

You should apply for a job with the Irvine PD. You seem to be a good match.

I don't know there seems to always be 2 sides of a story and the media always presents the most inflammatory to get clicks and views.

You can't get yourself to admit that Deputy Fife is a moron whose actions were based on his own prejudices and misconceptions, most likely formed by watching Fox News He didn't get the answer or response he was expecting, an is probably not used to dealing with an intelligent kid with brown skin and a funny name, so he lost the slight bit of reason and objectivity he possessed.

Kid's dad is actually North African, from Sudan. News reports don't mention his mom, though.

Apparently Zuckerburg has also joined the party and invited Ahmed out to FB. Good for this kid--and for Muslim and Arab Americans. We need more stories like this to change perceptions.

Can't wait to hear the explanation as to why even though the school and police claim they thought it was a bomb they didn't bother to evacuate the school nor did they call in the bomb squad they just arrested the kid.

They knew it was a clock, they just wanted a "broader explanation" as why he made it. In other words, they wanted him to admit that it was going to go 'into a bomb'.

There's this thing called law enforcement discretion. From where I sit--and I don't have the facts--it appears that it was not reasonably exercised here, and/or the reaction was heavy handed.

The wingnuts like yourself would be screeching from the treetops if the super sleuths from the Irving PD arrested a 9-year old NRA member who was trying to manufacture his own rifle on a 3D printer.

If that is indeed the case - just wanted a "broader explanation" - his family is about to hit the jackpot (lawsuit). Not only did they arrest him but the school suspended him for 3 days! Wow...just crazy.

The sad thing is this situation shows what the kids up against every day. The first thing the "teacher" thinks is Muslim = bomb. I bet the same teacher grades on a Muslim/brown child curve and ties to take him down every day. A good teacher can set a child on a great path, a bad can destroy the child.

The police freely admitted this.

What's crazy are the folks looking for a way to justify or defend this blatant abuse of authority.

They didn't do it freely. No apology from Police Chief. No internal affairs Investigation. Mayor who fears Sharia law defends police actions. Irving must the asshole of Texas.
