How old are your kids and where did you go this summer?

Can you talk more about where you stayed and what types of things you did while there?

Sure- we stayed at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe resort in the Nevada side. It was ideal- close to the beach, and had a really nice swimming pool amd firepit for s'mores. Good restaurants onsite but easy waling or short drive to local restaurants.

We spent a full week- we went to the beach, DS and DH went parasailing, we drove around the lake (never been before, so we tried to see all of it). We took a gondola up one of the mountains- DS did a ropes course at the top (big success). Short hikes. Pool time in the AM. Really, it was perfect- a lot of variety and physical activity. The kids club was expensive so we only used it the one night when DH and I went to a local gourmet restaurant. Frankly, the mountain air, good food and activity leveled DS out so much that or was a relaxing vacation for everyone.

We're for sure going back next year- counting the months.

Also wanted to say fancier trips (we've done some cruises, nothing over the top) have been harder with the ADHD. Too much stimulation, too little sleep, and inconsistent food quality. When we want to do something adult (I asked about an upcoming San Francisco trip in a senate thread) we have to tailor it to meet my son's needs. Cities in Europe would be an en expensive, fraught waste of time right now. We are saving to try Costa Rica in a few years- I think DS would be over the moon to experience the biodiversity and variety of activities in a place like that.

Kids are 8 7 and 5. We spent 10 days in Cape May and 10 days in the Grand Tetons and a Dude Ranch ~ dude ranch was one of the best weeks of my life! Such an amazing family vacation. Long weekend in the Hamptons without kids.

Kids are 8 and 6. Did a short week cabin camping in Rehoboth w/o DH, and two weeks in the Sierra Nevada mountains visiting family, hikes & beaching at Tahoe, Donner Lake, Bear & Yuba River etc.

Please tell the name of the Dude Ranch. Did you/your family get sore from the horseback riding?

Kids are 6 and nearly 2. Did a week in Carolina Beach/Wilmington and a weekend in Pittsburgh. Both of these were doable for my 2 year old and fun for the rest of us. One day we'll get to do the bigger trips again, maybe in 2-3 years when the youngest is more capable.

It was the CM Ranch near Dubois Wyoming. The kids didn't complain of soreness- my husband and I definitely felt a bit sore- We were riding 4 hours a day as were the kids and we started taking the "lope" rides from day one as we had riding experience. The kids started loping around day 3 or 4. You don't have to ride that much- it's very much up to you- one morning I hiked, one morning the boys fly fished etc. I also got two 90 minute massages during the week- that helped with soreness. I can't recommend the ranch enough! Wonderful people and a wonderful place- first rate.

God bless nannies who will travel and being able to work remotely.

Wow - that 's quite the humble brag

My favorites are the ones that take their kids on safari. A woman's son was dragged out of a tent by hyenas at 11 years of age and murdered in Botswana. Hyenas had been circling earlier at dinner but of course momma just kept right on eating Yes it was 15 years ago. Stupid doesn't expire.

Then there was the little French boy who was killed by a leopard attack at the fancy outside restaurant in Tanzania. The lodge had lied to them about safety and had been attracting the leopard with leftovers.

These kids felt safe because they assumed their parents could protect them and wouldn't take them anyplace dangerous.

Cape Cod. Go every year for as long as I can to hang with family. My kids are older now but it's given them such a sense of belonging and stability. They now can explore on their own.

With what's going on in Europe, refugees swarming in, etc, it's not someplace I long for anymore. Friend of mine, her son went to London and was constantly fending off pickpockets. Who the FUCK wants that?

Europe's a big place. It's not all bad!! We went to the UK for 3 weeks (stayed with family, rented a house on the coast, then London - no pickpockets!) and road trip to Cape Cod, which I loved and would go back to. But not every year, ever! We stayed in Mystic and Newport on the way, Hartford, CT and Woodstock, NY on the way back. Kids 5 and 8 months.

I don't know that particular park, but I would enjoy that myself even though at this time money isn't tight for us. I wish I could get DH to agree...he's a real naturophobe---but I'd love a week at a park!

6 and 1.5 years. We went to Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) with a one day layover in Istanbul. Great trip, but a lot of moving around for a week. Next time might stay in fewer places with day trips or something.
