Looking for ideas for next summer already, when they will be 2 and 5.
How old are your kids, where did you go? What would you do differently? |

7 and we did Disney World. Wouldn't change a thing. Wouldn't take a younger kid, especially one who still naps. We're only planning on doing on Disney trip in her whole childhood, and it worked out really well - perfect age for it. (If I could have picked, I wouldn't have picked August, but we didn't have much choice for other reasons).

Asia. 5 and 10. Like many international families, kids' ages don't factor into the equation - we travel regularly to see our families anyway. What changes is the intensity of travel and whether we do short daytrips to sightsee. This time we did way more stuff than when the children were younger. It was a great trip. Like PP above, August is not the best time to travel, but we couldn't do otherwise. |

3.75 years and 21 months. Kids had a blast at Sesame Place and then the Please Touch museum on the way home. We're not doing a long vacation this year because I don't have a ton of leave, but that was a great little getaway. The only thing I'd do differently is stay at the Springhill Suites, right next to Sesame Place (our hotel was quite close, but not walking distance). I'd also probably do two days at Sesame, one for dry rides and one for wet. Definitely go on weekdays if you go. My husband and I also had a lot of fun and found it to be a (mostly) relaxing trip.
We went to Cozumel when they were 11 months and almost three years old, brought both the grandmas so we could scuba dive. Great time but wouldn't do it without the grandmas. |

We didn't do a big trip this summer but went to the Grand Canyon and Scottsdale for Spring break - kids age 10 & 12. For the summer we visited relatives in CA (generally hanging out, visited a water park, weekend at a national park) for a week and had a bunch of weekend trips -- Virginia Beach weekend with ILs, family wedding weekend in Minnesota, camping and visiting amusement park in PA, we'll be at a family camp for Labor Day weekend.
It was a good summer. While we didn't have any especially exciting long trips, both kids also did a sleep-away week and I liked that we had a variety of weekend trips throughout the summer. |
| Kids are 4 and 6. We did a 1 week Disney Cruise followed by 1 week in Spain. I'd do Spain first and the cruise last (if possible). |
|
2 and 3.5. London, a couple of cities in Spain, and a couple in Italy. Two weeks in NYC (grandparents are there).
God bless nannies who will travel and being able to work remotely. |
| 6 year old. We went to rehoboth for 4 days and spent a few days in NYC. |

4.5 year old. We went to Ogunquit ME. It was great. We hit the Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, the Art Museum in Ogunquit (actually quite kid friendly), and the lighthouse in York. The beach was great - the tide goes out quite a bit, so there are a lot of shallows for beginning swmmers, albeit with a strong current. The water is cold, but it was in the 80s, so very refreshing.Crowded, but plenty of tourist infrastructure, which helps when traveling with both kids and senior citizens.
Downsides: traffic on Route 1 along the coast, the tiger mosquitoes have made it to Maine |
| Kids were 3 and 5 this summer. We went to Nova Scotia. The Cabot Trail was best part. Three nights at Lantern Hill in Ingonish and 3 nights at Pilot Whale Chalets in Chericamp. PEI would have been great to add to the itinerary. |
3 and 5 also! Boston (Children's Museum, family, the common) and Ocean City. Can't wait for Europe with them. Nova Scotia sounds awesome. Were there flights involved? Tell about that and the hotels... |
We took our 4.5 year old to Old Orchard Beach, Maine and also spent a few days in Boothbay Harbor. Great trip. |

4 and 1 and we didn't do a big summer trip this year. I didn't have much leave and a major work project so taking time off was hard. My husband and I did two long weekends (kids with their grandparents), I had a girls weekend, DH is going to a wedding solo. My sister's family visited for a week. So-an eventful summer, just not one with a family vacation. I actually think it worked out ok-gave yes some adult time to connect and the kids had a blast with their grandparents.
Next year I kind of just want to do a beach house with a bunch of friends we don't see often. We'll see if it happens. We're planning a Disney trip in January. |
| 7 and 5. We haven't done our big trip yet- that's coming up this week and next (9 days) to Portland, Seattle, and Victoria. We went to Pigeon Forge shortly before school let out to meet my in-laws halfway. |
